The Opportunity:

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a GeoEngineering and Tailings Engineer for our Tailings facilities in Manitoba (both operational and under care and maintenance). This position will be based on a Monday to Friday schedule, reporting to the Chief Engineer and Operations Superintendent. After 1 year, location requirements will be evaluated and a rotational, site seasonal or semi-remote arrangement can be considered pending role development.

 

The individual would be primarily responsible for assisting in activities and processes to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant management of tailing facilities, water management facilities and legacy sites.

 

The atmosphere is fast paced, dynamic and is built on trust. Leadership is focused on the individual, providing mentoring and coaching to facilitate employees reaching their full potential.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Water management for tailings and water management facilities including water balance and operational support
  • Strong focus on water quality geochemistry and trends
  • Deposition at active facilities, including planning, tracking, efficiency, and operational support
  • Support dam safety program
  • Assistance to environmental programs
  • Closure support
  • Activities and policies that support CDA and TSM
  • Internal and external reporting on above
  • Other duties as required.

 

Professional Experience / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Sc. in Eng (Chemical, Geological, Environmental, Hydrotechnical or Water Resources preferred)
  • Proven technical and analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing to a diverse audience
  • Understanding of geochemical processes impacting water quality
  • Proficient with MS Office software and Google Workspace
  • Goldsim experience an asset
  • Familiarity with TSM, CDA, GISTM and other industry guidelines for mine tailings
  • Act in a manner that ensures the health and safety of yourself and others.  Identify and act to correct potential workplace hazards. Familiar with applicable workplace safety regulations.

Salary dependent on experience and qualifications

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From $93,935.00 per year

Experience:

  • Experience on tailings and water management facilities
  • Experience with MB/SK Mine and Environmental Act regulations or similar
  • Eperience working with a multi-disciplinary team and external engineering consultants
