Senior Exploration Geologist

The Opportunity:

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Sr. Exploration Geologist within our Exploration department located in Flin Flon, MB. The successful candidate will provide geological support to the geological group, manage, propose, and execute exploration programs.  The successful candidate will also assist with training of junior geological staff, geological modelling, write reports and assist the geophysical department with geological interpretation.

The successful applicant will have the choice between a Fly-In-Fly-Out/Work from Home hybrid, or opt to relocate to the vibrant community of Flin Flon, MB.

Accountabilities:

• Supervises ongoing exploration programs.  Monitors work in progress and results, making adjustments to the program as required and tracking costs.  Inputs field data in database. Ensures all environment, health and safety systems are followed.  Supervises contractors and diamond drillers.  Acquires all necessary permits for the exploration project.  Liaises with federal and provinical government geologists, other government agencies,  community and other stakeholders as required.
• Assesses properties for acquisition potential.  Investigates any exploration activity that has taken place in the area and research geological information.  Conducts site visits.  Makes recommendations on property potential for future exploration initiatives.
• Identifies new targets for exploration and outlines the best approach to testing the targets.  The Senior Geologist will design the program, estimate the costs (budget) and propose the program to the Chief Exploration Geoscientist.
• Writes or reviews program updates and/or assessment reports required for internal and/or external reporting. 
• Calculates internal geological resources for exploration projects. 
• Ensures proper permitting and legal compliance.
• Participates in the continued development and application of the environment, health, and safety program and communicate the changes to work teams on a required basis.
• From time to time field work will be required on our land holdings.  This may included work in the Snow Lake area or other remote sites.
• Provides coaching, guidance and mentorship for team, summer students, geologists, and technologists.  Provides back up relief to the Chief Exploration Geoscientist in periods of absence.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• P.Geo Designation
• 10+ years experience in Exploration Geology
• B.Sc or equivalent education, M.Sc preferred
• Valid driver’s license
• Solid knowledge of volcanic hosted massive sulphide deposits (VHMS)
• Regional scale targeting and exploration experience
• Shown to be self-motivated and possesses leadership abilities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, ArcPro (GIS), Leapfrog Geo, Surpac and Target
