With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. Position

Summer Student (Various Departments)

 

Location

Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and Okanagan.

 

Summary

We are currently recruiting summer students to assist in various departments. This could include working with our Mill Operations/Maintenance, Mine Operations/Maintenance, Metallurgy/Assay, and Administration/Human Resources /Safety team. The student will gain valuable hands-on experience, as an included member of Copper Mountain team.

This role is site-based in Princeton, BC, with a term length: of 4 months (April -August).

This is a temporary, full-time role.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Practices safe work behaviors and supports the Copper Mountain Mine safety culture through participation in daily and monthly safety meetings and initiatives,
  • Adheres strictly to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements in all areas while on mine property,
  • Follows all Company policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs),
  • Provides general good housekeeping practices in the work area,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Summer Student position as required or as assigned by the department head.

 

Education & Experience

  • Enrolled in a University degree, college or technical college,
  • Previous mining or industrial experience considered an asset,
  • Secondary school students who meet the minimum age requirement may be considered,
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

 

Required Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills,
  • Quick learner and adaptable to an ever-changing environment,
  • Able to work under pressure and maintain a calm focus to meet tight timelines during hectic periods,
  • Able to work independently as well as function as an effective team member,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements,
  • Minimum age requirement is 18 years or older as per the BC Mines Act.

 

Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments,
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking, and standing,
  • Driving in congested high-traffic mining and construction areas under varying weather conditions,
  • Walking in similar congested/high-traffic construction areas as well as more remote areas on site (uneven footing is commonplace),
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs.,
  • Will be required to be clean-shaven depending on assigned work location.

 

Other Requirements

  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada,
  • Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements.

 

Rate of Pay

$31.29 / hour
