The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Business Improvement Project Lead at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule.

Business Improvement Project Lead

 

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the General Manager, the Business Improvement Project Lead is responsible for leading project execution as part of Hudbay’s process and technology roadmaps, leveraging Lean, Six Sigma, Performance and Change Management disciplines.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Practices safe work behaviors and supports the Copper Mountain Mine safety culture through participation in daily and monthly safety meetings and initiatives,
  • Provide guidance and support to team members through complex process and technology change initiatives,
  • Lead and provide support on the execution of on-site Process Improvement Roadmap and Workshops,
  • Lead the completion of workshop action items,
  • Establish and utilize a system to identify opportunities for continuous improvement,
  • Transfer and embed new ways of working, including training and on the job coaching,
  • Liaise with Managers and department heads to bring technology requirements to the General Manager, including managing technology project implementations,
  • Employ management system principles to ensure new ways of working are present and effectively used in the work processes to sustain gains over time,
  • Identify areas where data can help the business and determine where unstructured data would best be moved to a structured system,
  • Support analysis, development and implementation of Business Intelligence Reports and Dashboards,
  • Identify areas where a business improvement system can present data to support better business decisions,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Business Improvement Project Lead role as required or as assigned.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, engineering, or Technical Mining Designation, or a related field,
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience related to continuous improvement and quality management in multi-departmental assets,
  • Broad knowledge of Mining and Milling Processes, including engineering, 
  • Six sigma or lean methodology certification with applied skills in leading the implementation of Continuous Improvement (programs, systems, tools and/or initiatives) across organizational teams,
  • Experienced with development and implementation of Management System tools, such as Response/Control processes and Leadership Standard Work,
  • Demonstrated sufficient financial knowledge to develop and justify resources through the budget process and subsequently manage the allocated budget,
  • Theoretical understanding and practical experience with safety management, asset utilization, communication, process variation (SPC), and management accounting.

  • Ability to lead, plan, and manage change at all levels of the organization,
  • Ability to establish a clear and well-articulated implementation plan,

  • Conducting detailed analysis of the current situation that accurately describes the issues,
  • Specifying deliverables, outcome indicators, and performance-measured indicators,
  • Identifying available resources (for example, people, material, and finances),
  • Mapping out in detail the desired situation or outcome,
  • Clearly defining methodology,
  • Accurately analyzing options including impact and feasibility,
  • Specifying obstacles and ways to overcome them through continuous improvement,
  • Self-starter who is accountable for their work and able to work efficiently and collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently,
  • Strong analytical and complex problem-solving skills,
  • Balanced approach to innovation, disruption, and practicality,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and organizational skills,
  • Strong understanding of computer applications.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent exposure to a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Rare exposure to working in adverse temperature conditions, both hot and cold,
  • Rare exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as working in noisy, dusty, and wet environments,
  • Rare exposure to lifting and moving items and equipment up to 50 pounds,
  • Regular exposure to multiple priorities requiring scheduling changes and uncertainty in the work organization.

 

Salary Range

$160K - $175K /Annum
