The Opportunity
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Driller 2 at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7, 12-hour shift, Day shift / Night shift schedule.
Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Location
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Mine Operations Supervisor, the Driller 2 is responsible for working closely with the Driller and providing assistance to the drilling team where needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work safely and promote a safe work environment, adhering to safety policies and procedures,
- Follow instructions for drilling parameters and establish operating procedures safely and efficiently,
- Ensure equipment has had pre-trip checks and is set-up correctly,
- Obtains accurate samples from the drill cuttings of each hole as per company SOP, delivers them to the mill lab on a shift-by-shift basis, and ensures the correct documentation follows each sample,
- Initiates and safely completes all cable moves for the electrical drills and shovels using the approved tools for moving the cable without unnecessary risk of damage,
- Delivers dust suppression water, drill bits, and drill string components to the drills as required, including daily removals of all used components from the drills and delivering to the proper disposal locations,
- Collects garbage, checks on supplies at the fuel islands, and stocks up as required,
- Checks that all trailing cable is on stands, picks up cable stands that are not in use, and returns them to the storage area,
- Replaces any cable stands that are being used for delineation with the orange/red delineators,
- Assists the drillers in changing drill bits and steel as required,
- Cleans the drill helpers’ truck, drill/water truck, and cable realer weekly,
- Performs any other responsibilities related to the Driller 2 role as required or as assigned by the department head.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED),
- Must be competent in the operation of PV271, PV351, and DML blasthole drilling equipment,
- Previous manual labor work experience is considered an asset,
- Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills,
- Ability to get trained on various equipment, learn from others and adopt best practices while maintaining a strong focus on safety, integrity, and reliability,
- Possess a solid mechanical ability/aptitude,
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions,
- Self-motivated and able to work alone or with minimal supervision.
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work requires working in heavy industrial environments; this may have conditions that include adverse temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture; walking on slippery and/or rough, uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; at heights; and involves climbing ladders and stairs,
- Exposure to working outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving,
- Regular exposure to lifting and moving items and equipment up to 50 pounds.
Rate of Pay
$ 39.83/ Hour
