The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking an Electrical/Instrumentation Planner at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2 schedule.

Electrical/Instrumentation Planner

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Electrical Superintendent, the Electrical Planner is crucial for operational efficiency, your role as a planner is essential in ensuring that electrical and automation systems are maintained to high standards, minimizing disruptions and maximizing productivity. The Planner is responsible for the delivery of the planned performance of the plant/mine, with zero injuries at the lowest practical unit cost. The Planner will produce fully planned work packages, for approved work orders, that specify the requirements to complete the work safely, correctly, and efficiently and will be aligned with the Mill/Mine Operations, health policies, safety initiatives, environmental standards, and maintenance strategy.

Responsibilities 

  • Creates and fosters a respectful workplace and culture of continuous improvement,
  • Follow the Copper Mountain Mine site’s safety, quality, and environmental standards in all aspects of work as well as standard operation procedures (SOPs)
  • Promote compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Mines Safety Act,
  • Execute the “Plan Work” element of the Work Management Process,
  • Complies with quality specifications and authority levels set out in the documentation,
  • Works with others on the planning team to ensure major PMs, Shutdowns and repetitive events are captured, documented appropriately, resources are scheduled, and follows up to ensure compliance with regulations,
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to develop solutions for complex maintenance challenges,
  • Reviews the Work Order Status Report daily to assist in prioritizing planning and tracking upcoming work,
  • Plans, within the area of responsibility, approved work orders for resource procurement and execution proper to the Target Start Date,
  • Encourages contribution of planning details from the Supervisor and the Crew members, mainly supervisors and crew members,
  • Incorporates crew input into planning packages,
  • Identifies and escalates all critical issues that threaten the successful planning of work orders for completion by their Target Start Date,
  • Manage backlog to ensure work orders are planned with emphasis on safety and based on priority and required start date. Ensure work order users' statuses are properly maintained throughout the lifecycle of the work order,
  • Develops and uses Job Plans to improve the efficiency of the planning process,
  • Monitor KPIs and actively strive toward plant targets. Work within assigned budgets and escalate to management should a budget be exceeded. Participate in Job reviews and defect elimination processes as required,
  • Embrace a strong commitment to safety and environmental protection as top priorities, and ensure compliance with all corporate, governmental and site safety and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations,
  • Performs any other responsibilities as required or as assigned by the department head.

 

Education & Experience

  • Diploma in Maintenance Planning or Relative planning experience in mining and/or industrial settings,
  • Red Seal Certificate in electrical or instrumentation is considered an asset,
  • Minimum five (5) years of related industrial maintenance planning experience, with at least (3) years in a mining or industrial production environment,
  • High level of proficiency in computer applications including MS Project,
  • Proficient user of SAP and/or IBM Maximo is considered an asset, (SAP is our new system)
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the operation,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with operations personnel and senior management,
  • Ability to read and understand Electrical drawings, AutoCAD is an asset
  • Ability to be a self-motivated, team player with a positive attitude and the ability to work with minimal supervision,
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities simultaneously under tight deadlines,
  • Knowledge of mill, crusher, HV Electrical Systems, Utility Distribution
  • Skill in working in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to working in adverse temperature conditions,
  • Routine exposure to a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Occasional exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Frequent exposure to adverse temperature conditions associated with the work environment such as working in noisy, dusty, and wet environments,
  • Exposure to working outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving.

Rate of Pay

$100,000.00 - 109,000.00 / annum
