Environmental Compliance Lead
LOCATION
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Superintendent, Regulatory Compliance, the Environmental Compliance Lead is responsible for ensuring environmental compliance across the business unit.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in all Company Environment and Health & Safety programs and support the safety culture through involvement in daily and monthly safety meetings and initiatives,
- Support achievement of legal compliance with permit and regulatory requirements through system implementation and regular compliance audits,
- Monitor compliance thresholds in all environmental permits and licences,
- Review of internal and regulatory reports,
- Validate field data and laboratory results against standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy before it enters the system of record
- Streamline data collection systems (incl. telemetry, automation, digital collection)
- Accountable for identifying potential environmental (compliance) hazards and implement mitigations
- Maintain professional and ethical conduct standards in all interactions with regulators, First Nations communities, and the public
- Promote environmental awareness and standards relating to environmental programs to employees and contractors to minimize any risk of negative impacts to the environment,
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Possess a degree in Environment Science, Environmental Engineering, Geoscience or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years mining experience in BC in Environmental role
- Environmental monitoring field experience
- Direct experience with Environmental Databases such as MonitorPro and LIMS programs such as DATS
- P.ENG, RP Bio, P.Ag, or EP
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Regulatory Frameworks: understanding of the BC Mines Act, the BC Health, Safety and Reclamation Code, and the BC Environmental Management Act (EMA).
- Detailed understanding of the Federal Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations (MDMER) and BC Water Quality Guidelines
- Understanding of the Permitting and licencing processes in BC and Canada
- Understanding of general environmental monitoring programs at Mines in BC
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills to present ideas clearly,
- Proficient user of Computer Applications, including Word, Excel and Google Workspace,
- Competent in effectively managing competing priorities, interdepartmental working relationships, and project timelines,
- Work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and possess a strong work ethic,
- Demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization, and ability to influence outcomes, and ability to manage conflict,
- Strong knowledge and understanding of appropriately applying prescribed environmental, safety and technical protocols,
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.,
- Self-motivated, high energy, strong organizational and time management skills,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
- Experience using SAP and MonitorPro Database is an asset,
- Experience with ISO 45001 considered an asset,
- Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
- Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
- Role may operate in a potentially stressful environment caused by constant requests from several people causing uncertainty and ambiguity,
- Work may require the employee to be physically capable of working outside on difficult terrain and in all weather conditions,
- Work will require operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving.
SALARY RANGE
$122K - $136K / Annually
