The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Supervisor, Mine Operations at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5X2, Monday to Friday with a compress work schedule option.
Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

LOCATION
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Environmental Manager, the Environmental Supervisor is responsible for providing senior supervision of regulatory compliance activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in all Company Environment and Health & Safety programs and support the safety culture through involvement in daily and monthly safety meetings and initiatives,
- Supervision of Operation based Environmental Team,
- Provide technical guidance, leadership and mentorship within the environmental department,
- Maintain legal compliance with permit and regulatory requirements through supervision, system implementation, and regular compliance audits,
- Data management using MonitorPro,
- Review of internal and regulatory reports,
- Support the environment team in continued development of skills and competencies,
- Promote environmental awareness and standards relating to environmental programs to employees and contractors to minimize any risk of negative impacts to the environment,
- Completes performance evaluations on direct reports and provide regular feedback,
- Support administrative process including budgeting, PR and notification creation,
- Performs other responsibilities related to the Environmental Supervisor as required or as assigned by the department head.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- B.Sc. in Environmental, Biological or Earth Sciences; or B.A. Sc in Environmental or other relevant engineering degree,
- Minimum 10 years of related work experience in the mining industry, with at least 3 years working at an operating mine and within the regulatory compliance aspect,
- Minimum 3 years supervision experience,
- Registration with EGBC or relevant professional association,
- Proficient user of Computer Applications, including Word, Excel and Google Workspace,
- Strong analytical and report writing skills,
- Possess valid Class 5 driver’s license,
- Experience using MonitorPro Database is an asset,
- Experience with ISO 450001 considered an asset,
- Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills to present ideas clearly,
- Competent in effectively managing competing priorities, interdepartmental working relationships, and project timelines,
- Must work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and possess a strong work ethic,
- Demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization, and ability to influence outcomes, and ability to manage conflict,
- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with key business partners, and internal customers,
- Solid understanding of BC and Federal Regulatory processes,
- Skill in developing and maintaining positive relationships and representing Copper Mountain Mine positively in the community,
- Skilled leadership and team building,
- Experience with SAP considered and asset,
- Strong knowledge and understanding of appropriately applying prescribed environmental, safety and technical protocols,
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.,
- Self-motivated, high energy, strong organizational and time management skills,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
- Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
- Role may operate in a potentially stressful environment caused by constant requests from several people causing uncertainty and ambiguity,
- Work may require the employee to be physically capable of working outside on difficult terrain and in all weather conditions,
- Work will require operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving.
SALARY RANGE
$120K - $135K / Annually
