The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Finance Supervisor - Operations at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule. This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring approximately 20% of time to be spent onsite or traveling to Princeton for work-related purposes. The remaining 80% of responsibilities may be completed remotely, providing flexibility while ensuring essential in-person or travel commitments are met.

Finance Supervisor - Operations

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Finance Superintendent or delegate, the Finance Supervisor will be responsible for managing the operating areas at site including production, operating and capital cost. Training and mentoring the teams of accountants. Additionally, work closely with systems team to provide support for system improvements and enhancements. This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring approximately 20% of time to be spent onsite or traveling to Princeton for work-related purposes. The remaining 80% of responsibilities may be completed remotely, providing flexibility while ensuring essential in-person or travel commitments are met.

 

Responsibilities 

  1. Planning and advice:
  • Provide input, with the assistance of colleagues, to the Finance superintendent such that there is commitment to the superintendent’s plan and shared intention to achieve the plan,
  • Put in place the monitoring and control steps that confirm that the budgeting and forecasting processes are being followed and maintained,
  • Coordinate the submission of budgets and forecasts for production, operating costs and capital.
  • Provides advice to Operating Units to resolve cost accounting issues and/or improvements,
  • Interfacing with other functions at Hudbay and all other interested parties and stakeholders to maintain collaboration in achieving the desired outcomes,
  • Putting in place processes to identify and mitigate risk,
  • Advise the site Operations Team about new developments that will affect their operations such that they can take it into account for planning and execution purposes.

 

  1. Specialist support to business unit departments/functions:
  • Plans and assigns work to achieve the service level of availability and reliability for Production Accounting and Reporting services and specialist support to the BC Business Unit such that we preserve our good standing in the marketplace,
  • Coordinates the preparation of financial analysis and scenario models requested by the Operating Units,
  • Implement system/process changes, once approved by the Executive Director Finance to meet compliance with IFRS changes such that the changes are fully integrated with other aspects of the accounting system.

 

  1. Month end close:
  • Manages the operating month-end close process such that cost variances are complete, accurate, adequately explained, investigated, and corrected within a 12-month window,
  • Develops processes to strengthen internal controls and to minimize financial surprises.

 

 

 

  1. Forecasting and budgeting:
  • Coordinates the review process for the year-to-date forecasts of operations units and production and admin areas,
  • Coordinates the budgeting process per support and advice above,
  • Designs budget and cost analysis files for dual purpose,
  • Provide help with financial modelling and mentoring of teammates.

 

  1. Cost Analysis:
  • Maintain/improve the format of monthly cost reporting and file set up,
  • Provides modeling support and training to team members.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration with a concentration in Finance or Accounting,
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA or CA) required,
  • Minimum of five (5) – 7 years of experience in accounting/finance business function,
  • Experience in a complex accounting environment in a medium to large public corporation,
  • Experience working in mining, oil and gas or construction is an asset,
  • Strong computer software aptitude and experience using an ERP or accounting software as well as advanced MS Office excel skills,
  • Proficiency in accounting software SAP is essential,
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and have access to personal vehicle.

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and non-verbal),
  • Organized and detail-oriented to create accurate and complete working papers,
  • Confident liaising with other groups to deliver information to both financial and non-financial teams,
  • Demonstrates the ability to take ownership of issues and tasks through to resolution,
  • Resourceful; willing to take action and think creatively when faced with a task that is not routine,
  • Ability to think critically and showcase problem solving skills when faced with challenges,
  • Innovative; wants to change how we have done things in the past and believes in continuous improvement,
  • Knowledge of BC sales tax and carbon tax would be considered an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Work includes working near others with a high degree of social interaction, 
  • Role may operate in a potentially stressful environment caused by constant requests from several people causing uncertainty and ambiguity,
  • Exposure to dust and temperature fluctuations,
  • Occasional exposure to fluctuations in sounds, noise, vibration levels,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

 Rate of Pay

$135K - $148K / annum.
