The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a First Nations and Community Relations Liaison at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5X2, Monday to Friday with a compress work schedule option.

POSITION
First Nations and Community Relations Liaison
LOCATION
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the General Manager, First Nations, Community & Government Relations or designate, British Columbia Business Unit (BCBU), the Community & Indigenous Relations Liaison builds meaningful and prosperous relationships with USIB, LSIB, and other First Nations, communities, local government and organizations. The incumbent can see both sides of every situation. They use negotiation and problem-solving skills to find common solutions through transparent and honest conversations to develop strong partnerships with local First Nations, community & government leaders. Leads strategic and tactical engagement efforts with local First Nations, community and/or community individuals, governments, and organizations, and to support building strong relationships that focus on strengthening our First Nations, community, and government relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with internal and external partners to develop meaningful engagement strategies with all First Nations and Communities of Interest (COI) partner groups,
- Cultivate and manage relationships across the business units and other functions for continuous alignment on strategic initiatives
- Partner coordination including reviewing and responding to partner feedback,
- Ensures input is consistently embedded into project planning on an ongoing basis,
- Supports the development of First Nations and COI partner technical presentation, monitors and reports progress on aligned initiatives,
- Develops and solidify understanding of BCBU business units and associated goals to build-out potential partnership opportunities and solutions with communities,
- Ensures alignment with our commitment to Participation Agreements (Pas) and provides leadership to building and maintaining effective relationships with USIB and LISB stakeholders,
- Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver comprehensive engagement plans and tactics to support the successful growth and operation of BCBU projects,
- Supports the development of strategic and tactical engagement plans with local First Nations, community, government & COIs both within and outside of regulated processes,
- Supports inclusive contracting and workforce planning and execution, to ensure benefits also flows through to local First Nations & COIs,
- Solidify self as a trusted face of BCBU, and a known, collaborative, creative, problem-solver between BCBU, First Nations, COIs and our First Nation government partners,
- Inspire and bring forth opportunities for improvement at BCBU and on our major projects to ensure feedback received from communities is implemented,
- Builds partnerships with communities and partner organizations,
- Identify and execute opportunities to move engagement beyond transactional partnerships to a long-term working relationship philosophy,
- Received donations requests and participates in the process to determine giving opportunities that are aligned with our objectives,
- Other duties as discussed and assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, public policy, environmental/natural resource management, communications or other related disciplines from a recognized program or equivalent experience work experience, and a minimum of three (3) years of recent and related experience in community investment, First Nations, or the mining industry,
- Member of a First Nation Community, with preference given to USIB & LSIB members, would be beneficial or experience working with First Nation Communities and leadership,
- A confident communicator with excellent writing skills,
- A detail-oriented and creative mindset with exceptional negotiating, communication and problem-solving skills,
- A genuine and authentic personality that creates and builds trusting and lasting relationships,
- A passion for learning, understanding and supporting local and Indigenous communities,
- Strategic and able to understand the overall picture of any situation to achieve long term success,
- Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and have access to personal transportation.

- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday, with some weekend work,
- Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
- Some travel to attend First Nation and community meetings,
- Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
- Work includes working near others with a high degree of social interaction,
- Work may require sharing office space occasionally,
- Role may operate in a potentially stressful environment caused by constant requests from several people causing uncertainty and ambiguity,
- Exposure to dust and temperature fluctuations,
- Occasional exposure to fluctuations in sounds, noise, vibration levels.
SALARY RANGE
$85K - $110K / Annually
