The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Production Geologist at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7 schedule, day shift rotation.

 

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Geological Technician / Geologist in Training

 

 Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, the Geological Technician / Geologist in Training is responsible for day-to-day short term mine geology tasks including primarily blasthole mapping, blasthole sampling, inspection of dig faces, data transfer and data validation. The Geological Technician / Geologist in Training will contribute to all aspects of the mine geology workflow.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental policies. Participate in daily safety meetings and inspections,
  • Support RC drilling activities, monitor drilling progress,
  • Deliver field mapping of lithological, alteration, and structural domains within the open pit. This is done by logging rock chip samples and ensuring accurate data is recorded into the database for grade control and resource modeling,
  • Define and provide ore and waste boundaries to the mine planners,
  • Assigns and supervises tasks of blast hole sampling, including QA-QC checks to ensure sample quality, and logging of blast hole cuttings,
  • Ensure that ore control staking is correct,
  • Inspect stockpiles,
  • Coordinate with the mine samplers and assay laboratory to prioritize blastholes,
  • Contribute to the daily, weekly, and monthly geological reports,
  • Assist with updating and validating geological models under the supervision of senior staff,
  • Assist with ore feed strategies to the primary crusher to provide optimal grade ore to the mill,
  • Perform any other responsibilities related to the role or as assigned by the department head.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or equivalent,
  • 1-3 years of experience working in a mining environment,
  • Experience in porphyry copper-gold deposit geology would be considered an asset,
  • Familiarity with logging diamond core and RC chips is considered an asset,
  • Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Acquire database software or similar industry standard software is considered an asset,
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required,
  • Experience with physical labor, working outdoors and mine driving experience,
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and have access to personal transportation.

 

 Required Skills

  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Working Conditions

  • Must be eligible to work in  Canada,
  • Work closely with the production geologists, samplers and engineering team members and collaborate closely,
  • Be required to perform computer-based functions combined with field work daily,
  • Work requires the employee to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE),
  • Frequent exposure to changing weather conditions,
  • Work requires the employee to perform physical tasks like walking on uneven surfaces, standing for periods of time and lifting up to 20kg.

 

Salary Range

$80K - $95K per Annum.
