The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical EIT/Technician at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7, 12 Hour Shift, day shift schedule.

Location
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
The Geotechnical EIT or Technologist at CMM plays a critical role in ensuring the stability, safety and efficiency of our open pit mining operations including mine infrastructure, slopes, benches, and haul roads. This role involves analyzing geological and geotechnical data, assessing ground conditions, and implementing measures to mitigate risks associated with ground instability. You will work closely with the site Geotechnical Specialist and other professionals to gain hands-on experience and technical knowledge in the field of geotechnical engineering. The position entails a blend of outdoors & office work and is an important component of data collection and processing.
Responsibilities
- Perform regular geotechnical inspections of active mining areas and report on the inspections,
- Install, calibrate and repair instruments dedicated to ground movement monitoring and water pressure,
- Maintain field equipment in good working condition by performing regular maintenance and calibration checks,
- Assist with implementation of monitoring programs to assess the performance of stabilization measures and identify potential hazards in real-time,
- Assist in managing field investigations to assess ground conditions, including soil and rock sampling, test pit excavations, and borehole drilling,
- Support the Geotechnical Specialist with slope stability monitoring using laser scans and ground probe slope stability radar, collect spatial data using a combination of drone-based mapping and laser scanning technology,
- Responsible for Drone flights and laser scans on a weekly basis,
- Conduct highwall structural mapping using photogrammetry and laser scans,
- Perform standardized tests in the field or the laboratory to determine engineering properties of rock and/or soil samples,
- Collaborate with mining engineers and geologists to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine planning and design,
- Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to stakeholders, including mine management, regulatory authorities, and external consultants,
- Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mine Engineering or a related field or a Diploma in Geotechnical Engineering Technology, Mine technologist or a related field,
- Experience in geotechnical engineering within the mining industry, particularly in open pit operations would be an asset,
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams,
- Proficient user of Computer Applications, including Google Workspace, Word, and Excel.

- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management verbally and in writing, coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills,
- Motivated self-starters with good problem-solving skills,
- Comfortable working in a multifaceted work environment with a willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain,

- Ability to take guidance and effectively carry out tasks as required,
- Proven ability to be effective in a fast-paced, dynamic, multi-tasking work environment,
- Detail and result-oriented with the ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines,
- Adept to work efficiently and with minimal supervision,
- Excellent time and project management skills,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements,
- Possess a valid Class 5 British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation,
- Demonstrate the eligibility to work in Canada.
Working Conditions
- Work involves performing duties in a combination of environments,
- Combination of field (60%) and office work (40%),
- Work includes lifting or moving up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
Rate of Pay
$75K - $82K/ annum.
