The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Human Resources Superintendent Workforce Management at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5X2, Monday to Friday with a compress work schedule option.

POSITION
Human Resources Superintendent Workforce Management
LOCATION
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the HR Superintendent, Workforce Management is responsible to continuously improving the team performance in providing required levels of HR specialist support and service for workforce management, recruitment, HRIS systems, compensation, talent pool and performance management to achieve assigned objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Annual Headcount Budgeting:
- Develop budgeting processes and coordinate the submission of the budget plans with Finance to validate accuracy,
- Coordinate, support and provide advice to department heads on preparation of their annual workforce budgets,
- Put in place the monitoring, reporting and control steps that confirm the budgeted headcount is being maintained,
- Forecast, analyze and support future state workforce budgets for restoration, reduction and transition planning at the BCBU.
Recruitment:
- Oversee recruiting process to support BCBU operational budgeted headcount requirements,
- Adapt and develop recruitment strategies to compensate for shortfalls, employment equity and transition requirements,
- Validate that requests to fill positions are funded through the budget process and/or facilitate the exception approval process.
Succession planning and talent pool assessment:
- Maintain and monitor compliance to the talent management systems, processes and education to support the BCBU in the One Hudbay strategy
- Organizational effectiveness practices,
- Performance assessment and feedback,
- Talent development and succession planning.
Compensation:
- Ongoing planning and execution of the annual compensation processes (hourly and non-unionized) ensuring that Hudbay’s pay is fair, timely, equitable and follows Corporate and Handbook guidelines where required,
- Maintain the integrity of the BCBU banding structure. Recommend strategies to correct inequities. Ensure the BCBU compensation program is competitive and attracts and retains talent,
- Manage requests from the BCBU for benchmarking.
Systems:
- Manage / oversee the upkeep and integrity of the workforce management systems (One Hudbay, HRIS –Success Factors EC, and Dayforce WFM). Provide training and support to BCBU where necessary,
- Coordinates administrative support (time and attendance, bonus, etc),
- Coordinates accommodations for BCBU employees and third-party vendors with the apartments, BCBU housing and local businesses,
- Manage governance of HR processes, process maps, documentation, knowledgebase documentation and communication ensuring that all relevant systems are kept up to date,
- Ensure design methodology, approvals, version control, change control and documentation are standardized and consistently applied,
- Lead/support wider HR function in the delivery of improvement projects as well as support delivery of HR calendar events,
- Review operational performance, seek effectiveness and efficiency improvements through innovation and continuous improvement,
- Develop/maintain communication tools to embed change projects as working with Managers to ensure that process and updates for their areas are effective and executed in a timely manner.
People / Health & Safety:
- Establish a team that is skilled, adaptable, motivated and upholds Hudbay’s core values in their work and interactions with internal and external stakeholders,
- Coach and provide opportunities for teams to participate and understand the importance and value of BCBU safety/environment programs and practices for themselves and our employees.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Psychology, Business Administration, or Commerce, with a concentration in Human Resources Management (or equivalent experience),
- Valid Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), or Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL), and/or Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) is required,
- Minimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of experience in human resources business function,
- Experience in the mining industry or heavy industry is ideal,
- Operational HR experience and/or Superintendent Operations role in an operating unit as HR coordinator/labour relations or managing a team of direct reports,
- Strong computer systems aptitude and experience working with various types of software including Google Suite,
- Previous experience working with an HRIS system, including an HRIS implementation is considered an asset,
- Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and have access to personal transportation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to optimally deal with multiple stakeholders and confidential/sensitive information,
- Knowledge of HR best practices in workforce planning, compensation, performance management, succession planning, and recruitment,
- Demonstrated capability to manage a team of direct reports and value delegating work to team members in achieving effectiveness and efficiency in workforce management processes and objectives,
- Can build an effective team of direct reports who are effective in role while fostering a climate of safety and continuous improvement,
- Demonstrates “Face to Face” communications as the preferred method of information transfer coupled with the ability to understand and influence the design requirements of requests from the various operating and support units in the business unit and corporate staff,
- Proven knowledge of federal and provincial legislation including the Employment Standards Act, Canadian Human Rights Act, Employment Equity Act, Canada Labour Code, and other related employment legislation,
- Skill in cross-cultural awareness with an understanding and sensitivity of the challenges associated with differences in cultural and economic backgrounds,
- Has acquired the necessary knowledge to read and interpret human resources analysis reports, conduct analysis, identify and anticipate problem areas with demonstrated ability to develop corrective actions,
- Demonstrated skill to plan, establish targets/standards, schedule resources, and assign work in such a way that team members can make effective use of materials, equipment, and tools to achieve a pre-defined schedule,
- Works collaboratively with colleagues to recommend corrective actions based on monitoring the conditions that could adversely affect, under or exceed, the scheduled planned and unplanned human resource specialist support provision requirements,
- Demonstrated sufficient financial knowledge to develop and justify resources through the budget process and subsequently manage to allocate budget,
- Skilled knowledge in the use of required technology systems: OneHudbay (Success Factors HR modules), Dayforce, and Workforce management,
- Theoretical understanding and practical experience with safety management, asset utilization, communication, process variation (SPC), and management accounting,
- Required to meet pre-employment test requirements,
- Demonstrate the eligibility to work in Canada.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
- Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
- Role may operate in a potentially stressful environment caused by constant requests from several people causing uncertainty and ambiguity,

SALARY RANGE
$150K - $165K / Annually
