The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Instrumentation Technician at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7/7 schedule.

 

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Instrumentation Technician

 

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Instrumentation Technician is responsible for working with the electrical department to install, calibrate and troubleshoot field instrumentation.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Works to install, calibrate, and troubleshoot field instrumentation,
  • Provides controls system programming and process troubleshooting using ABB 800xA historical data collection system required,
  • Works with the electrical department to install and troubleshoot 600V variable speed drives and motors,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Instrumentation Technician role as required or as assigned by the department head.

 

Education & Experience

  • Red Seal Trade Certification in Instrumentation and Controls Technician.
  • Distributed Control System and PLC programming are considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with Toshiba Drives, ABB Software, Singer Valve, and Rotork Valve maintenance desirable.
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

  • Good mathematical, scientific, and mechanical reasoning.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Detail oriented with sound decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and technical reading skills.
  • Self-motivated and desire to keep up-to-date with technological developments in the field.
  • Support maintenance and operational needs.
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and technical assistance.
  • Able to demonstrate proper lifting techniques to lift up to 25 kilograms.
  • Must be clean-shaven.
  • Requisite to possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Working Conditions

  • Environment is susceptible to the weather as a combination of shop and fieldwork is required,
  • Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments,
  • Work will require to be clean-shaven,
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking, and standing.

 

Other Requirements

  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening requirements and drug & alcohol testing,
  • Provide proof of a valid class 5/7N driver’s license,
  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada, 
  • Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements.
