The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Reliability Engineer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule. (Compressed Work Schedule option).

Reliability Engineer

 LOCATION:

 

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Junior Reliability Engineer is a key member of the team providing support in the execution and continuous improvement of existing mobile and fixed plant equipment reliability and predictive maintenance systems. This position will assist in root cause failure analysis, developing preventative maintenance strategies, and problem resolution for a variety of equipment issues. This is a developmental role focused on continuous improvement and performance excellence.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

    • Actively participate in Environmental, Health, and Safety aspects of the mine and assure all safety procedures and programs are effectively being followed,
    • Support the design of program workflows, roles, and responsibilities to establish program execution processes as per Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) Industry Standards,
    • Work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, and Project teams to assist in developing and optimizing service strategies to monitor and manage the performance, integrity, and reliability of assets,
    • Assist with Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEAs) and reliability studies to support the development and implementation of solutions to optimize asset performance,
    • Support the implementation of new reporting/historian tools specifically built for Condition Monitoring technologies,
    • Assist with the technical execution and sustainment of current centralized route-based vibration programs,
    • Assist with the technical execution, sustainment, and expansion of wireless vibration and temperature sensing device programs,
    • Work closely with the Fixed Asset Maintenance Strategy team to support the implementation of monitoring requirements,
    • Assist with the management of master data for critical assets, including setting service strategies and monitoring risks,
    • Develop expertise in the field of Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) and reliability best practices,
    • Support the evaluation of life-cycle costs to help determine the best scenarios for minimizing maintenance costs and optimizing asset utilization,
    • Other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in an engineering field (preferably Mechanical or Electrical),
  • Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC),
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience in a heavy industrial setting. Co-op or internship experience in mining, oil and gas, or manufacturing is considered an asset,
  • Experience or exposure to condition-based monitoring (vibration, oil analysis, infrared, ultrasound) is an asset,
  • Exposure to troubleshooting rotating equipment, both electrically and mechanically,
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities,
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 or equivalent driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Flexibility and creativity in dealing with complex technical issues,
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal), organizational, and interpersonal skills,
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of statistical analysis is an asset,
  • Strong computer skills in Google Workspace, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a technical team-based environment,
  • Required to meet the pre-employment test requirements,
  • Demonstrate the eligibility to work in Canada.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Exposure to dust and temperature fluctuations,
  • Occasional exposure to fluctuations in sounds, noise, vibration levels.

RATE OF PAY:

$95K - $110K /Annum
