JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Assay Lab General Supervisor, the Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for running the on-site laboratory. Leading on the frontline is one of the most important jobs in our business and comes with significant responsibility. We are looking for an accountable leader who will take end-to-end ownership of our laboratory processes, driving both daily execution and long-term improvements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leading the Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality culture in the Assay Department by communicating and upholding company policies and procedures
- Develop and implement procedures to meet the laboratory needs for site
- Ensure standard operating procedures accurately represent current laboratory practices by managing legal and technical compliance
- Hire, train, manage, and develop all Laboratory staff by conducting assessments, coaching, and providing recognition as well as discipline
- Drive and encourage accountability and culture within the team, promoting positive relationships.
- Liaise with multiple departments and maintain inter department communication pathways
- Ensure upkeep of laboratory instruments, equipment, and infrastructure through contractor management, use of the maintenance work notification system, and communication with maintenance teams
- Ensure accuracy of laboratory reporting by monitoring laboratory database for accuracy, identify trends that require additional action or communication to internal customers, investigate entry errors, and assign retests or make corrections as needed
- Support customer service complaint resolution by assigning special tests and assisting investigations
- Monitor the Quality clearance process for trucking and shipping, generate Certificates of Analysis for required samples, and maintain laboratory supplies
- Drives idea generation sessions, implements continuous improvement, and ensures project delivery
- Perform other duties as required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science, preferably Chemistry Major desirable or BC Assayer certification
- Experienced people leader with demonstrated experience in leading a mineral processing team while fostering a culture of zero harm
- Experience in the mining industry and experience with laboratory instrumentation including XRF, ICP, AA is preferred
- Experience operating automated robotic equipment highly desirable
- Familiarization with quality management and Copper/Silver/Gold Ore analysis standards are advantageous
- Demonstrated competence with computer-based ordering and work management systems such as SAP is desirable
- Superior skill with Microsoft Excel is essential

- Environment is susceptible to the weather as a combination of lab and fieldwork is required
- Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments
