The Copper Mountain Mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking for Mill Operations Document Controller at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday (Compressed Work Schedule option).

Location

Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

The Document Controller for the Mill Operations department is responsible for managing and maintaining all critical documents and records related to mill operations. This role is a vital link in ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of document control systems, particularly within a fast-paced, industrial environment. You will work closely with mill operators, supervisors, and technical teams to ensure all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible. 

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure work complies with mining regulations and Mine site safety (lock out and tag out, isolation), quality, and environmental standards and procedures,
  • Manage the complete lifecycle of operational documents, including creation, review, revision, distribution, and archival. This includes standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety data sheets (SDSs), technical drawings, equipment manuals, and daily production reports,
  • Develop and maintain the mill operations intranet, ensuring it serves as a one-stop location for all critical mill information, data, and communications, enabling stakeholders to access and respond to key information efficiently,
  • Maintain the electronic document management system (EDMS) and other databases to ensure all documents are properly categorized, indexed, and easily retrievable,
  • Ensure strict version control for all documents, distributing the most current versions to relevant personnel and removing outdated documents from circulation,
  • Conduct regular audits of documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal quality assurance standards and external regulatory bodies. Assist in preparing for and participating in internal and external audits,
  • Facilitate the flow of information between departments, particularly Mill Operations, Maintenance, Metallurgy, Finance, and Procurement. Streamline processes and interactions with Finance and Procurement to enhance efficiency and clarity, collaborating with the mill clerk to improve their task workflows and support additional administrative duties for the mill leadership team,
  • Communicate document updates and changes to team members and provide training on document control procedures and best practices,
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed, such as preparing reports, managing work order documentation, and supporting the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure all related documents are updated,
  • Develop templates, workflows, and organizational structures for document control within Mill Operations, to be adapted and implemented across other departments.

Education & Experience

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate or bachelor's degree in business administration, information management, or a related field is preferred. Certification in records management is a plus,
  • At least 3-5 years of experience as a document controller, preferably in the mining, oil and gas, or a similar heavy industrial environment,
  • Proven experience with electronic document management systems (EDMS) such as SharePoint, Aconex, or other industry-specific software,
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data tracking and analysis, and Word for document creation and formatting. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data tracking and analysis, and Word for document creation and formatting,
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Required Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively liaise with various departments and external parties,
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, technical documents, and operational terminology common in the mining or mill processing industry,
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving document-related issues,
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment,
  • A commitment to safety and an understanding of the importance of accurate documentation in a safety-sensitive role,
  • Possess a strong work ethic with a drive for improvement.

Working Conditions

  • Team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Work includes manual dexterity to use desktop computers and peripheral devices,
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
  • Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments,
  • Work involves pushing, pulling, and moving equipment and/or supplies over 50 pounds,
  • Job requirement to be clean-shaven.

Rate of Pay

$70K – $85K/ Annum
