The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Mill Operations Superintendent at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday schedule day shift.

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Mill Operations Manager, the Mill Operations Superintendent will be responsible for managing the Mill Operations team. Copper Mountain Mine has a 45 ktpd plant that utilizes a conventional crushing, grinding and flotation circuit to produce copper concentrates with gold and silver credits. As we plan for a major mill expansion, this is a unique and exciting opportunity to play a leadership role in supporting the transition of the mill through the expansion.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure strong safety performance and zero Lost-Time Injuries within the Mill Operations department.
  • Ensure the safe and environmentally responsible operation of the concentrator and associated operations.
  • Manage the Mill Operations department, providing guidance and development to the team.
  • Maintain a culture of respect, honesty, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the Mill Operations Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including tonnage, operating time, recovery, concentrate quality, copper production and costs are met or exceeded.
  • Interact with other departments within and outside the mill to ensure optimal output.
  • Set and maintain metallurgical operations standards.
  • Work closely with Mill Maintenance to ensure minimal process disruptions.
  • Assist with hiring, reviews, disciplinary, and other personnel actions.
  • Support operations in developing and providing technical training through documentation and training programs.
  • Actively drive continuous improvement.
  • Identify key issues; creatively and strategically to overcome internal challenges.
  • Support the development of the annual mill production budget through 1 -3 -5-year planning.
  • Oversee the coordination and safe execution of shutting down mill operations for budgeted and unbudgeted downtime events.
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Mill Operations Superintendent role as required or as assigned by the department head.

 

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a technical field (including Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or Mineral Processing) preferred but will consider a combination of experience and education.
  • Eight (8) or more years’ previous management experience in a mineral processing plant.
  • Previous management experience in a technical environment with proven leadership abilities.
  • Possess knowledge of the Mines Code and Health, Safety and Reclamation Code of BC to obtain Mines Supervisor Certification,
  • Competent in computer applications,
  • Experience with Maximo is considered an asset,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Working Conditions

  • Environment is susceptible to the weather as a combination of shop and fieldwork is required,
  • Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments,
  • Work will require to be clean-shaven,
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking and standing.

 

Rate of Pay

$155K - $180K / annum.
