The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Mine Engineer in Training at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule.

 

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, the Mine Engineer in Training plays a vital role in supporting the Engineer department that encompasses a wide range of responsibilities. This role aims to enhance and optimize current practices and standards to maximize the value for Copper Mountain Mine.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Practices safe work behaviors and supports the Hudbay - Copper Mountain Mine safety culture through participation in daily and monthly safety meetings and initiatives,
  • Adheres strictly to PPE requirements in all areas while on mine property,
  • Follows all Company policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs),
  • Provide support to the Survey Department,
  • Provide support to the Short-Range Planning Engineer,
  • Provide support to the Drill & Blast Engineers,
  • Systems support and investigation into capabilities of on-site equipment,
  • Interact with other departments on site to achieve Mine Engineering and site objectives,
  • Evaluate mine production performance data and implement improvements as necessary,
  • Assist in project planning, execution, and closeout,
  • Other duties, tasks, and projects required to support Mine Engineering and Mine Operations or as assigned by the Supervisor.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Enigineering,
  • Preferably 3 years' experience in the mining industry, ideally in open pit,
  • Mine design software experience (i.e. Surpac),
  • Proficiency with computer applications required,
  • Previous exposure to Mine Operations and the implementation of mine plans in an operational setting,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

 

Required Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the operation,
  • Show initiative to analyze and solve problems,
  • Good computer skills and an ability to learn and adapt to new software quickly,
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members in a positive manner,
  • Good work ethic and a strong attitude towards safety are essential requirements.

 

Working Conditions

  • Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Exposure to dust and temperature fluctuations,
  • Occasional exposure to fluctuations in sounds, noise, vibration levels,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Rate of Pay

$70K - $90K / annum.
