The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Mine Maintenance General Supervisor at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5X2 Monday to Friday Schedule.
Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Mine Maintenance General Supervisor
Location
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
Reporting to the Mine Maintenance Superintendent, the Mine Maintenance General Supervisor is responsible for the safe execution of all truck shop work, in order to maintain a reliable fleet. Providing support through good communication and feedback to supervisors and crew/team members. Ensuring maintenance activities are conducted safely, ensuring maximum production at minimum cost.
Responsibilities
- Stands a courageous safety leader by promoting and supporting the creation of a strong safety culture and safe practices and leading by example,
- Ensures full compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as well as the Health & Safety, and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia,
- Uses risk assessment process for managing safety effectiveness,
- Provides technical and organizational guidance to all Mine Maintenance Supervisors and the onsite Mine Maintenance Contractors,
- Works closely with Mine Operations team as well as other groups and suppliers,
- Creates and fosters a respectful workplace and culture of continuous improvement,
- Focuses on equipment availability and reliability, while maintaining availability at or above budget,
- Oversees all projects related to component replacements and improvements,
- Manages shop costs within budget,
- Assists in the preparation of the month-end report and annual maintenance department budget,
- Manages the effectiveness of labour utilization,
- Maintains a clean and efficient maintenance shop and work environment,
- Performs any other responsibilities related to the General Supervisor role as required or as assigned by the department head
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED), or a technologist diploma,
- Red Seal Certificate,
- Experience in the application of the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC,
- Current BC Mining Supervisor Certificate, or working towards obtaining it within one (1) month of starting with Copper Mountain Mine,
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in an open pit mining/milling copper/gold operations,
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working at a large tonnage Mine in a senior supervisory role,
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.
Required Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills,
- Details and results-oriented with the ability to prioritize work, multi-task, and adhere to deadlines,
- Must have excellent organizational skills,
- Working knowledge of control systems, Maximo (ERP) system as an asset,
- Demonstratable leader with a focus on team coaching and development,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
Working Conditions
- Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
- Occasional exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
- Role may require the employee to work a non-standard schedule which may include shift work (other than day shift) in a 24/7/365 operation,
- Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments.
Salary Range
$130K-159K/Annum
