The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Mine Operations Engineer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2 schedule, Monday to Friday straight days.

 

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Mine Operations Engineer

 

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, the Mine Operations Engineer provides critical support in the successful execution of mining operations. This role will provide engineering and operational expertise to ensure safe and efficient completion of tasks that are properly resourced and thoroughly planned.

 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Competently supports a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with CMM’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Programs and the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC,
  • Research and prepare justification documentation for equipment purchases,
  • Manage and support capital projects execution related to the Mine Operations Department,
  • Develop project scope and manage department contractor activities on site ensuring alignment with strategic plans and budgetary compliance, 
  • Support procurement and financial-related tasks through the use of SAP to ensure project resources and timelines are achieved,
  • Development and implementation of continuous improvement related projects within Mine Operations,
  • Support the management, development, and updates to safe work practices and standard operating procedures,
  • Develop and optimize presentation of key performance indicators and tracking in collaboration with Technical Services team,
  • Review of projects and execution plans in collaboration with the Technical Services team,
  • Presentation of Mine Planning information to Operations team members in collaboration with Technical Services,
  • Support Supervisory team to ensure alignment on longer range projects and ensure adequate resources are provided for project success,
  • Support development of annual department operating and capital budgets,
  • Lead key projects related to the Mine Operations department,
  • Support incident investigations process through data compilation, investigation participation, and implementation of corrective actions, 
  • Performs other responsibilities as required or as assigned by the Mine Operations Superintendent.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering,
  • 5 years’ experience in Engineering and Operational roles in an open pit mining environment,
  • P. Eng designation or the ability to register as such with EGBC,
  • Mine Operations supervisory experience is considered an asset,
  • Proficient user of computer based mine design software,
  • Proficient user of computer-based training, investigation tools (Intelex), and procurement programs (SAP),
  • Proficient user of computer systems including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite,
  • Possess a valid Class 5 British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills,
  • Competent in effectively managing competing priorities, interdepartmental working relationships, and project timelines,
  • Must work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and possess a strong work ethic,
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization, and ability to influence outcomes, and ability to manage conflict,
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with key business partners, and internal customers,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Working Conditions

  • Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
  • Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in all weather conditions,
  • Work includes lifting or moving up to 50lbs,
  • Team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings.

 

 

Salary Range

$110K to $130K /annum.
