The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a  Payroll Specialist at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule.

Payroll Specialist

 Location

Hudbay - Copper Mountain Mine, located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Payroll Administrator, the Payroll Specialist will provide support the Payroll Administrator so that payroll is completed in an accurate, compliant and timely manner for BCBU employees. Supports the Finance team with office management.

 

Responsibilities

 

Payroll Specialist Tasks: Assist Payroll Administrator with overflow of work:

 

  • Support the payroll function for BCBU,
  • Assists Payroll Administrator in ensuring that payroll is processed in an accurate and timely manner in compliance with the applicable federal and provincial legislation,
  • Process Changes and payroll related entries in payroll system,
  • Assist in month-end, quarter-end and year-end payroll and accounting close out and accrual process,
  • Participates in special projects related to payroll management (process and system changes as an example),
  • Supports full payroll cycles including T4’s,
  • Calculate and Pay Bonus, Payroll taxes, WCB premiums, Health & Safety premiums, RRSP Contributions, Employee Expense, Donations,
  • Participate in technology related projects that impact payroll and employee expense administration,
  • New pay rate calculations and uploads,
  • Dayforce Client Administrator tasks,
  • Assist with time and attendance, employee data as needed.

 

Execution of expense report processing:

  • Ensures the expense reports have the appropriate documentation and support before processing payment,
  • Audits and reviews expense reports as required.

 

SOx and Internal Controls:

Execution of operationally effective internal controls over the BCBU Payroll process.

  • Accountable for ensuring that the appropriate approvals are received and documented for SOx,
  • Ensures appropriate documentation is maintained and is available to auditors,  
  • Responds to auditor requests in a timely manner.

 

Compliance:

  • Have in place actions that will provide integrity, timely and relevant information flow, openness and transparency, effective risk management, and sound controls,
  • Take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislation, regulations, policies, work standards, and governance.

People:

  • Compliance with the requirements of each of the HR systems such that team members are fully developed in role.

Education & Experience

  • Diploma/Degree in Business Administration with accounts payable or similar experience,
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) (or equivalent experience),
  • Skilled knowledge in the use of required technology systems: SAP and Excel,
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices,
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of payroll calculation and processing,
  • Knowledge of applicable local, Provincial and Federal rules and laws,
  • Proficiency in relevant payroll, benefits and pension software,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation

  • Attention to detail in all areas of work,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements,
  • Demonstrate the eligibility to work in Canada.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Frequent exposure to lifting and moving items up to 50 pounds,
  • Rare exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as working in noisy, dusty, and wet environments.

Rate of Pay

$90K - $103K/Annum
