The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Process Specialist - Grinding Expert at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule.

Process Specialist - Grinding Expert

Location

Hudbay - Copper Mountain Mine, located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Superintendent - Metallurgy, Assay and Process Improvement (MAPI), the Process Specialist - Grinding Expert will act as a credible technical resource to ensure plant capacity is fully optimized and production targets are met.

 

Responsibilities  

  • KPI’s and performance of the Grinding and Crushing Circuits
  • Equipment Optimization: Support and lead the redesign of liner packages based on learnings
  • Grinding APC Support: Lead the optimization and stabilization of the new system.
  • Debottlenecking: Support crushing and grinding circuit & operational improvements to meet the 50,000 TPD goal by the end of 2026.
  • SAG 2 Start Up: Support the start-up and stabilization of the grinding circuit.
  • System: Manage the SAG 1 & SAG 2 Mill slicer and optimize grinding ball size for efficient grinding.
  • Data Fidelity: Support the data systems of PI/RT DUET and DOMO as it relates to grinding.
  • Technical Mentorship: Provide specialized support and guidance for EITs, and serve as an alternative leadership contact during leadership absences.

Education & Experience

  • Expert knowledge in grinding/milling.
  • Meng, MASc. or Relevant degree in Process Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Advanced academic studies or specialized research (such as a dissertation/thesis in Grinding APC) are a strong asset.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with EGBC (EIT or P.Eng).
  • Background in process engineering with specific technical knowledge, minimum 7 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with APC’s and AI integration of control systems.
  • Experience completing shutdowns and startups is an asset.
  • Proven experience in teams that have delivered improvements in safety and operating performance.
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

 

Required Skills

  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, strong work ethic and be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Have a high regard for personal safety and the safety of company property and employees.
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements,
  • Demonstrate the eligibility to work in Canada.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments.
  • Will be required to be clean-shaven.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking and standing.

Rate of Pay

$122,400 to $136,000 per annum.
