The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Production Engineer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule.

 

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, the Production Engineer is a key role that leads tactical activities in the Mine Engineering group while acting as an integral liaison to Mine Operations.  This role will directly oversee and provide guidance to short-range mine planning.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure that short-range mine planning deliverables comply with established Copper Mountain Mine standards and the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC,
  • Oversee and guide short-range mine activities for the Mine Engineering department,
  • Support and guide professional and personal development of direct reports,
  • Ensure that short-range mine plans are optimized and in line with guidance of long-range plans,
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes and deliverables within the short-range functional area of the Mine Engineering group,
  • Monitor scheduling and progress of day-to-day operations to ensure short- and long-term plans are consistently met,
  • Interact with other departments on site to achieve Mine Engineering and site objectives,
  • Evaluate mine production performance data and implement improvements as necessary,
  • Assist in project planning, execution, and closeout,
  • Drive mine plan compliance by working closely with Mine Operations General Supervisors to ensure short-range mine plans are achievable and optimize,
  • Other duties as required to support Mine Engineering and Mine Operations.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with Mining; equivalent combination of education and mine engineering experience also considered,
  • Registered as a P.Eng. with a Professional Engineering Association,
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the mining industry, preferably open pit,
  • Mine design software experience (i.e. Surpac),
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required,
  • Previous exposure to Mine Operations and the implementation of mine plans in an operational setting.

 

Required Skills

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the operation,
  • Show initiative to analyze and solve problems,
  • Good computer skills and an ability to learn and adapt to new software quickly,
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members in a positive manner,
  • Good work ethic and a strong attitude towards safety are essential requirements,
  • Other duties as required to support Mine Engineering team.

 

Working Conditions

  • Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Exposure to dust and temperature fluctuations,
  • Occasional exposure to fluctuations in sounds, noise, vibration levels,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Rate of Pay

  • $126K - $140K / annum.
