The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Production Geology Sampler at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7, 12-hour, day shift schedule.

Position

Production Geology Sampler

 

Location

Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Production Sampler is responsible for daily sampling of blasthole chips and delivery to the assay lab.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures site compliance with mining regulations and follows Copper Mountain Mine site’s safety, quality, and environmental standards in all aspects of work,
  • Observes Occupational Health and Safety Act, Mines Act, and the company’s standard operating procedures (SOPs),
  • Samples blasthole chips in accordance with the Mine Geology SOP,
  • Prepares sample shipments and delivers them to the assay lab on site,
  • Inserts QA/QC samples to every batch as requested by the Senior Geologist,
  • Ability to assist with exploration and infill drilling programs QAQC and sample delivery,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Production Sampler position as required or as assigned by the department head.

 

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or higher, geological background considered an asset,
  • Experience with physical labour, mine driving experience would be an asset,
  • Previous experience in collecting geological data would be advantageous,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated ability of being a contributing team member and leader,
  • Organized and enthusiastic,
  • Must be comfortable working alone,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Work requires working in heavy industrial environments; this may have conditions that include adverse temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture; walking on slippery and/or rough, uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; at heights; and involves climbing ladders and stairs,
  • Exposure to working outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving,
  • Regular exposure to lifting and moving items and equipment up to 50 pounds.

 

Salary Range

$31.29/hr.
