The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Project Coordinator at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday shift schedule.

Project Coordinator

 

Location

Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating various site improvement (Sustaining Capital) projects from conception to handover to operations.  This role will be site based in a blended setting between planning work in the office to field supervision during construction.  The successful candidate will be a key member of the Projects team working with Operations, Maintenance, and external consultants and contractors to take an improvement idea through its stages of investigation, evaluation, engineering, construction, commissioning, and handover.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Generating Project Charters, Scopes of Work, Estimates, and AFEs for brownfield projects by working with Operations, Project Team, and external support where required,
  • Coordinate installation work with contractors, operations staff, and project team members. Work will be multi-disciplinary, ranging from Mechanical, Electrical, Concrete, Structural to Civil,
  • Supervise contractor crews and ensure all safety, workmanship and general Company standards are met,
  • Support procurement teams with sourcing of materials,
  • Schedule key project milestones,
  • Generate and optimize work plans to support tie-ins requiring the shutdown of operating equipment,
  • Support the Electrical and Mechanical Project Coordinator and all other disciplines,
  • Communicate with and support external Engineering support,
  • Manage the commissioning of equipment and handover to operations,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Project Coordinator position as required or as assigned by the department head.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors in an Engineering degree, Technologist, or Certified Trade,
  • Experience working in an industrial setting with people from diverse backgrounds, qualifications, and professions,
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering and construction,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

 

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of one or two disciplines (ie: Civil, Structural, Concrete etc.) in

          an engineering or construction environment,

  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills,
  • Ability to digest technical information and communicate it effectively to non-technical people is an asset,
  • Working knowledge of Gmail, Google Docs, Maximo, and CMMS systems is an asset,
  • Experience in using Microsoft Projects is an asset.
  • Ability to lead and supervise Contractors with a primary focus on safety,
  • Details and results-oriented with the ability to adapt to changing priorities, multi-task, and adhere to

          deadlines,

  • Ability to occasionally lift 50 lbs.,
  • Willingness to work a flexible shift when required. During shutdown tie-ins, night shift supervisor

       support may be required on an infrequent basis,

  • Ability to hike moderate inclines to scope out projects, supervise or inspect work,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Working Conditions

  • This role offers a balance between working in an office and field supervision,
  • Working in a mine concentrator building and crushing circuits that is loud, dusty, dirty and requires

         climbing and descending stairs,

  • This role is in a fast-paced environment that may require the Project Coordinator to adapt to

        changing priorities and schedules,

  • This role will be a key part of assisting the Projects group to deliver various improvement projects

        around the mine site.

 

Salary Range

$100K - $120K / Annum.
