The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Project Coordinator at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday shift schedule (compressed work schedule option).

Location

Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Sustaining Capital Projects Manager, the Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and assisting the Project Manager with various site improvement (Sustaining Capital) projects from conception to handover to operations.  This role will be site based in a blended setting between planning work in the office to field supervision during construction.  The successful candidate will be a key member of the Projects team working with Projects, Operations, Maintenance, external Consultants and Contractors to take an improvement idea through its stages of investigation, evaluation, engineering, construction, commissioning, and handover.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with generating Project Charters, Scopes of Work, Material Take-off, Estimates, AFEs, Schedules and RFIs for brownfield and greenfield projects by working with the Projects Team, Operations and external support where required,
  • Coordinate installation work with contractors, operations staff, and project team members. Work will be multi-disciplinary, ranging from Mechanical, Electrical, Concrete, Structural and Civil,
  • Supervise contractor crews and ensure all safety, workmanship and general Company standards are met,
  • Support procurement team with sourcing materials, arranging shipments, gathering and staging materials.
  • Schedule key project milestones,
  • Generate and optimize work plans to support tie-ins requiring the shutdown of operating equipment,
  • Support other project team members as required,
  • Communicate with and support external Engineering consultants,
  • Review IFR/IFC drawing packages to ensure general conformity with project standards, scope completeness and administrative requirements. 
  • Assist with managing the commissioning of equipment and handover to operations,
  • Perform any other responsibilities related to sustaining capital projects as required or as assigned by the Sustaining Capital Projects Manager.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors in an Engineering degree, Technologist, or Certified Trade,
  • Experience working in an industrial setting with people from diverse backgrounds, qualifications, and professions,
  • Experience with industrial brownfield and greenfield projects,
  • Experience with successfully coordinating multidisciplinary projects as an owner’s representative, 
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering and construction,

 

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of one or two disciplines (i.e.: Civil, Structural, Concrete etc.) in an engineering or trade construction environment,
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills,
  • Ability to digest technical information and communicate it effectively (verbal and written) to non-technical people,
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple priorities and prioritize them correctly,
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, SharePoint and SAP,
  • Experience in using Microsoft Projects is an asset.
  • Proven ability to lead and supervise Contractors with a primary focus on safety, quality and efficiency,
  • Details and results-oriented with the ability to adapt to changing priorities, multi-task, and adhere to Deadlines,
  • Willingness to work a flexible shift when required. During shutdown tie-ins, night shift supervisor support may be required on an infrequent basis,
  • Ability to hike moderate inclines, climb stairs or ladders to scope out projects, supervise or inspect work,
  • Training or certification in fall arrest and confined space is an asset,
  • Training or certification to operate loaders / forklifts or telehandlers is an asset, 
  • Ability to occasionally lift 50lbs
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Working Conditions

  • This role offers a balance between working in an office and field supervision,
  • Walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs/ladders, climbing slopes and working in various weather conditions. Requires the ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods,
  • Exposure to typical mine site conditions, including dust, noise, mud, heavy machinery, and varying temperatures. Adherence to strict safety protocols is paramount,
  • This role is in a fast-paced environment that may require the Project Coordinator to adapt to changing priorities and schedules,
  • This role will be a key part of assisting the Projects group to deliver various improvement projects around the mine site.

 

Salary Range

$106,470 to $112,385 / Annum.
