The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday schedule.

 

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

As a Project Engineer, reporting to the Continuous Improvement Superintendent, you will be an integral team member of the mill department providing technical and project support.  This will involve an active role in operational readiness, project co-ordination, commissioning, capital Applications, vendor liaison, contracts and following up on technical requirements to achieve established KPI’s.  The Project Engineer (or EIT) is an exciting opportunity to support projects and operational readiness.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Actively participate in all Environmental, Health and Safety aspects of the mine and ensure all safety procedures and programs are effectively being followed,
  • Under the supervision of more senior engineers, develop project execution plans, operational readiness programs, commissioning certificates, assist with maintaining a document control library and analyze data and perform calculations,
  • Mill Operations support in troubleshooting technical challenges support process optimization,
  • Support Mill Operations team as required,
  • Support trials, pilot plants and commissioning of new processing equipment,
  • Actively participate in cross-functional opportunities to support Engineer-in-Training (EIT) development,
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering,
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with EGBC,
  • 0 – 5 years’ experience in engineering,
  • P. Eng or EIT required, if not must be eligible,
  • Experience in Project Management, AutoCAD or Commissioning preferred,
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills,
  • Superior skill with Microsoft Excel is essential,
  • A growth mindset & drive, to be open to new ideas to continuously improve and support our Plant, our Team & ourselves.

 

Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of principles and methods used in projects (Waterfall), Engineering analysis and exposure in using analytical / statistical tools, ability to research, analyze information and draw conclusions, and take action to resolve operational, environmental issues, permit compliance and problem resolution from an operating plant status,
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multitasking, use of timelines and time management techniques,
  • Strong communicator – Ability to work across discipline and geographic boundaries, connecting people to collaboratively solve problems– bridge between technical and operational teams,
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and have access to personal transportation,
  • Must pass pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol testing,
  • Required to pass fit testing for respiratory protection.

 

Working Conditions

  • Environment is susceptible to the weather as a combination of office and fieldwork is required,
  • Frequent exposure to conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments,
  • Work will require to be clean-shaven,
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking and standing.
  • Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online.  

 

Salary Range

$90K - $115K/ Annum.
