The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Reliability Engineer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule. (Compressed Work Schedule option).

Position
Reliability Engineer
LOCATION:
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a proactive and analytical Reliability Engineer to join our Mobile Maintenance team at our open-pit copper mine in British Columbia. The successful candidate will be responsible for optimizing the reliability and performance of our primary mobile fleet, with a specific focus on Komatsu PC8000 hydraulic shovels, Komatsu 830E haul trucks, and Epiroc Pit Viper drills. Your primary goal will be to eliminate defects, increase equipment availability, and lower lifecycle costs through data-driven analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Reliability Analysis:
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) on major component failures for mobile fleets,
- Analyze data from our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), oil analysis, and onboard health monitoring systems (e.g., Komatsu KOMTRAX/VHMS) to identify negative trends in equipment health and performance,
- Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) to track fleet reliability,
- Strategy Development & Optimization:
- Develop and refine preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime,
- Identify and justify component change-out strategies based on condition monitoring, lifecycle cost analysis, and reliability data,
- Collaborate with the planning and execution teams to ensure maintenance tasks are effective, value-added, and scheduled appropriately,
- Continuous Improvement & Defect Elimination:
- Champion defect elimination projects by identifying sources of failure and implementing engineering or procedural solutions,
- Work closely with maintenance supervisors, technicians, and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) representatives to troubleshoot complex issues and implement lasting solutions,
- Review and approve proposed equipment modifications to ensure they enhance reliability and safety without introducing new failure modes.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mining Engineering,
- A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia, or eligibility for registration as a P.Eng. from another Canadian province/territory, is required,
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a heavy industrial or mining environment, with a strong focus on mobile equipment reliability,
- Direct, hands-on experience with Komatsu large hydraulic shovels (PC8000 preferred), electric drive haul trucks (830E preferred), and large rotary blasthole drills (Epiroc Pit Viper preferred) is essential.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Proficiency in reliability methodologies such as RCA, FMEA, and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM),
- Strong data analysis skills and experience with CMMS (SAP, preferred), oil analysis software, and equipment health monitoring systems,
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with tradespeople, planners, and management,
- Possess a valid Class 5 or 7 driver’s license and have access to personal transportation,
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
- Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
- Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
- Exposure to dust and temperature fluctuations,
- Occasional exposure to fluctuations in sounds, noise, vibration levels.
RATE OF PAY:
$95K - $110K /Annum
