The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5X2, Monday to Friday schedule, day shift rotation.

 

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

POSITION

Senior Engineer, Long-Range Planning

 

LOCATION

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Superintendent, Mine Engineering, the Senior Engineer, Long-Range Planning is responsible for mine planning, projects, mine design, economic analysis, and coordination with other departments.

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Optimizes truck shovel operation to maximize production and minimize operating costs,
  • Works with the Superintendent of Mine Engineering to develop Life of Mine, long-range mine plans, and pertaining presentations and documentation,
  • Creates mine plan and schedule which covers production targets, major and supporting equipment hours, ore feed requirements, projects and operating days,
  • Ensures mine designs are harmonized with geotechnical, environmental, and other related considerations,
  • Performs economic analysis and cost estimating as well as assisting with reporting and tracking of production and costs,
  • Build detailed costing models to evaluate mining options,
  • Develops and tracks project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and appropriate requests, and compares against previous plans,
  • Contributes to project design work as required,
  • Manage projects and contractors related to the mine as needed,
  • Integrates and communicates with other site groups to develop the best overall plan,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the role as required or as assigned by the department head.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering; equivalent combination of education and mine engineering experience also considered,
  • Minimum seven to ten (7-10) years of experience, with progressive experience, in short, medium, and long-range planning,
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada, with the ability to register as a member of the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC),
  • Previous experience in open pit, truck, and shovel operations,
  • Experience working on projects, overseeing, coordinating, and communicating with multiple internal resources and external contractors,
  • Experience in planning drilling and blasting in a mine operation setting, including pattern and tie-in design, drill schedule, and blast coordination,
  • Experience conducting feasibility studies and cost estimates,
  • Extensive experience in utilizing appropriate mine planning, design, and scheduling software packages,
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access),
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and have access to personal transportation.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills,
  • Skill in being flexible and creative in dealing with scheduling, mine planning, and other complex issues,
  • Strong          analytical,    and    problem-solving    skills    coupled    with    being    comfortable making recommendations,
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment,
  • Capacity to work in a self-directed manner and possess good time management skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a technical team-based environment,
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization, an ability to influence outcomes, and an ability to manage conflict,
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to manage a diverse team to effectively leverage skillsets and provide additional support where necessary.   

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Occasional exposure to fluctuations in temperature, dust, sounds, noise, vibration levels,
  • Role operates within a dynamic, fast-paced environment and requires engaging with multiple stakeholders and skillfully managing a variety of incoming requests,

SALARY RANGE

$130,000.00 - $148,000.00 / Annum
