The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule.

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

 

Summary

Reporting to the Finance Superintendent, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for ensuring accuracy and completeness of capital and operations accounting through the timely and accurate preparation of journal entries, reconciliations and analysis that support the direction, strategies and action plans necessary to achieve the full potential of the assets available to BCBU. Also, responsible to provide back up to various functions in the BCBU finance team.

 

 

Responsibilities 

Capital and Fixed Asset:

    • Preparation of accurate capital budget and monthly forecast,
    • Finance Business partner for Operations/stakeholders for the AFEs, Capex and Opex treatment and AFE approvals,
    • Perform Capital and Fixed Assets Accounting including recording accruals, on-time capitalization and periodic depreciation,
  • Own and perform Month-end accounting/process for assigned responsible areas,
  • Lease Accounting,
  • Production Accounting,
  • Vendor setup approval/review process including callbacks,
  • Assist and coordinate review consolidated operating cost review process.

 

Execution of BCBU Operations Accounting:

  • Undertakes month-end processing for capital spending, accruals, projects, and other as assigned. Prepares journal entries consisting of both routine and non routine adjustments,
  • Reviews capital for completeness.  Records, reviews and explains cost variances.  Investigates and corrects errors,
  • Prepares analysis in readable formats including waterfalls/visual representations,
  • Reviews AFE submissions and aids operational areas with AFE preparation when requested,
  • Advises and assists operational areas with questions or concerns regarding capital accounting issues,
  • Works with manager to resolve capital issues brought forward by operating areas that require unique expertise in this field,
  • Provides reporting and analysis of capital projects,
  • Maintains and owns fixed asset subledger, establishing best practices for keeping track of additions/disposals/transfers and depreciation methods in line with SoX controls.

 

Capital Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Prepares monthly capital forecasts. Submits forecast to operational manager(s) for review and prepares management presentation,
  • Prepares yearly capital budgets.  Budget process consists of inputting preliminary data, variance analysis and making revisions.

 

Production Accounting:

This involves review of monthly production reports submitted by Mine and Mill team to ensure:

  • Actual results provided are reviewed for accuracy and booked in statistical accounts,
  • Update production forecast files in a timely manner.

 

Vendor Approvals:

This involves ensuring sensitive fields for vendors are updated based on call back process to:

  • Review to ensure all the vendor data is updated accurately and on a timely basis,
  • All the required documentation is in place and up to date.

 

SOx and Internal Controls:

Execution of operationally effective internal controls over financial reporting applicable to the BCBU accounting function.

  • Accountable for ensuring that the appropriate approvals are received and documented for SOx prior to making changes within the ERP,
  • Ensures SOx documentation is maintained and is available to auditors,
  • Responds to auditor requests timely.

 

Compliance:

  • Have in place actions that will provide integrity, timely and relevant information flow, openness and transparency, effective risk management, and sound controls,

Take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislation, regulations, policies, work standards, and governance.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce or Accounting or two years Business Administration Diploma with a concentration in Finance or Accounting,
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) required,
  • Minimum of five to ten (3-5) years of progressive experience with Mining, Minerals, Energy or Heavy-Duty industrial required,
  • Experience in a complex accounting environment in a medium to large public corporation,
  • Experience working in an industrial setting is an asset
  • Strong computer software aptitude and experience working with various types of accounting software,
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and have access to personal transportation.

 

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and non-verbal),
  • Organized and detail-oriented to create accurate and complete working papers,
  • Ability to read and understand accounting policies (including IFRS)
  • Skilled knowledge in the use of required technology systems: SAP, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint,
  • Proficiency in Excel,
  • Analytical, problem solving and technical skills,
  • Effective communication skills,
  • Planning and organizational skills,
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while adhering to strict timelines,
  • Knowledge of BC sales tax and carbon tax would be considered an asset.

 

Working Conditions

  • Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Work includes working near others with a high degree of social interaction, 
  • Role may operate in a potentially stressful environment caused by constant requests from several people causing uncertainty and ambiguity,
  • Exposure to dust and temperature fluctuations,
  • Occasional exposure to fluctuations in sounds, noise, vibration levels,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Rate of Pay

$110K - $135K / annum.
