The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst - Operations at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule. This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring approximately 20% of time to be spent onsite or traveling to Princeton for work-related purposes. The remaining 80% of responsibilities may be completed remotely, providing flexibility while ensuring essential in-person or travel commitments are met.

 Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

 

Summary

Reporting to the Finance Superintendent or designate, Senior Financial Analyst – Operations ensures accuracy and completeness of operational accounting financial information through the timely and accurate preparation of journal entries, reconciliations and analysis that support the direction, strategies and action plans necessary to achieve the full potential of the assets available to BCBU. This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring approximately 20% of time to be spent onsite or traveling to Princeton for work-related purposes. The remaining 80% of responsibilities may be completed remotely, providing flexibility while ensuring essential in-person or travel commitments are met.

 

Responsibilities 

Execution of BCBU Operations Accounting:

  • Undertakes month-end processing for assigned operational areas (including services and admin areas). Prepares journal entries consisting of both routine and irregular adjustments,
  • Reviews cost reports for completeness. Records, reviews and explains cost variances. Investigates and corrects errors,
  • Prepares analysis in readable formats including waterfalls,
  • Support the team to perform financial analysis and prepare scenario models requested by operating areas,
  • Support Capital Analyst in AFE submissions and aids operational areas with AFE preparation when requested,
  • Review of Purchase requisitions (PR) to ensure correct costing,
  • Review of vendor master data for SOX compliance,
  • Works with supervisors to resolve issues brought forward by operating areas that require unique expertise in this field.

 

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Prepare the forecasts for operational areas as required. Submits forecast to operational manager for review and adjustments,
  • Support the operations team in preparation of yearly operating budgets for his/her areas. Budget process consists of inputting preliminary data, variance analysis and making revisions,
  • Support Capital Analyst in the preparation of the capital budget when requested. Ensures capital budget prepared by capital analyst accurately reflects the budget for his/her areas,
  • Ensure all costs are clear after budgets/forecasts are updated,
  • Ensure data is pulled to correct reports in GP and SAP.

 

SOx and Internal Controls:

  • Execution of operationally effective internal controls over financial reporting applicable to the BCBU accounting function.
  1. Accountable for ensuring that the appropriate approvals are received and documented for SOx prior to making changes within Maximo, GP and SAP.
  2. Ensures SOx documentation is maintained and is available to auditors
  3. Help in preparing the documentation for auditor requests timely.

 

Compliance:

  • Have in place actions that will provide integrity, timely and relevant information flow, openness and transparency, effective risk management, and sound controls,
  • Take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislation, regulations, policies, work standards, and governance.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Commerce or Business Administration Diploma with a concentration in Finance or Accounting,
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) preferred,
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in accounting/finance business function,
  • Experience in a complex accounting environment in a medium to large public corporation,
  • Experience working in mining, oil and gas or construction is an asset,
  • Strong computer software aptitude and experience using an ERP or accounting software as well as advanced MS Office excel skills,
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and have access to personal vehicle.

 

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and non-verbal),
  • Organized and detail-oriented to create accurate and complete working papers,
  • Confident liaising with other groups to deliver information to both financial and non-financial teams,
  • Demonstrates the ability to take ownership of issues and tasks through to resolution,
  • Resourceful; willing to take action and think creatively when faced with a task that is not routine,
  • Ability to think critically and showcase problem solving skills when faced with challenges,
  • Innovative; wants to change how we have done things in the past and believes in continuous improvement,
  • Knowledge of BC sales tax and carbon tax would be considered an asset.

 

Working Conditions

  • Work involves a set work schedule, Monday to Friday,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Work includes working near others with a high degree of social interaction,
  • Role may operate in a potentially stressful environment caused by constant requests from several people causing uncertainty and ambiguity,
  • Exposure to dust and temperature fluctuations,
  • Occasional exposure to fluctuations in sounds, noise, vibration levels,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Rate of Pay

$120K - $135K / annum.
