The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Senior Metallurgist at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day-shift schedule.

 

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Senior Metallurgist

 

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Metallurgy Superintendent, the Senior Metallurgist is responsible for providing metallurgical support to mill operations and the metallurgical department to improve the performance, stability, and overall efficiency of the plant.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Actively participate in all Environmental, Health and Safety aspects of the mine and assure all safety procedures and programs are effectively being followed,
  • Monitor and advise on parameters for the metallurgical operation of the mill,
  • Drives idea generation sessions, implements continuous improvement, and ensures project delivery,
  • Monitor metallurgical advancements and recommend appropriate selection and implementation,
  • Perform regular trend analysis to ensure equipment and process health meets the metallurgical requirements,
  • Coordinates work and matches competency with task requirements,
  • Provide guidance to the team of Metallurgists to ensure optimal processing, recovery, and tailings,
  • Ensure metallurgical strategies are adequately communicated to the Operations teams and that teams are held to account if significant, unwarranted deviations occur,
  • Improve, monitor, and maintain the daily accounting system and accounting inputs,
  • Completion and distribution of mid-month and end of month metallurgical reconciliations within agreed timeframes,
  • Assign, coordinate, and review tasks for direct reports to manage priority tasks, resource levels and balanced workloads,
  • Promote / lead process improvement ideas and deliver metallurgical projects and test work programs,
  • Lead projects from concept through to design, implementation, and commissioning,
  • Complete projects independently,
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Education & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Extractive Metallurgy, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline,
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team in mineral processing,
  • Minimum 5 years in copper or gold or mineral processing experience,
  • Metallurgical accounting and material balancing,
  • Competent with Met Lab practices and equipment including sample prep, particle sizing, grinding and flotation tests and filtration,
  • Experience using various computer applications,
  • Experience with online analysers (OSAs or similar),
  • Previous experience in flotation is desired.

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment,
  • Capacity to work in a self-directed manner and possess good time management skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a technical team-based environment,
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to manage a diverse team to effectively leverage skillsets and providing additional support where necessary,
  • Required to possess a valid driver’s license,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Required Skills

  • Exposure to dust and high noise levels,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to driving in congested high-traffic mining and construction areas under varying weather conditions,
  • Role requires the employee to walk in similar congested/high-traffic construction areas as well as more remote areas on site (uneven footing is commonplace),
  • Work required frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 kg,
  • Required to be clean-shaven.

 

Salary Range

$100K - $120K / annum.
