The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Senior Mine Geologist at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5X2, Monday to Friday schedule, day shift rotation.
Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Senior Mine Geologist
Location
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
Reporting to the Superintendent, Geology, the Senior Mine Geologist is responsible for managing geological activities and projects to support mine planning and operations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and provide guidance to geology team with day-to-day routines/tasks including ore control, sampling, assaying and block modeling,
- Produce Reverse Circulation (RC) infill drilling plans and budgets when needed to target planned ore release in the next budget cycle,
- Manage RC infill drilling programs, ensuring quality control of drilling, sampling, and compliance of contractors with site standard operating procedures and BC Mines Code regulations,
- Assist in management of site exploration diamond drilling programs and geophysics,
- Provide geological analysis and modeling of geological zones and mineralization in the pits,
- Help to implement and optimize ore reserve and ore control block models,
- Work with metallurgy group to manage mine to mill programs focusing on throughput and recovery in the concentrator,
- Complete monthly reconciliation of block models compared to actual production; support completion of month-end reporting of reconciliation data,
- Assist in the management of technologies on site that help minimize and/or measure dilution,
- Help with managing the drillhole database and QAQC of blastholes,
- Remain current with industry standards and new theories/technologies used in the field of geology,
- Be a leader in safety, promote a safe working environment and culture with all co-workers and contractors,
- Any other tasks as required by the Superintendent, Geology.
Education & Experience
- 5-8 years of relative experience - practical work experience specifically related to open pit mining and mineral exploration,
- Managing and mentoring junior geologists and labourers,
- B.Sc. in Geology or similar field is required,
- Certified Professional Geologist designation and registered with EGBC (or eligible for registration),
- Porphyry copper deposit experience is considered an asset,
- Strong computer skills with mining software background; (Surpac, Minesight, Leapfrog)
- Estimation and modeling experience is considered an asset,
- Strong commitment to workplace safety,
- Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and have access to personal transportation.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills,
- Accuracy and attention to detail while working under tight deadlines,
- Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills,
- Strong interpersonal skills,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
Working Conditions
- Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
- Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer,
- Role may operate in a potentially stressful environment caused by constant requests from several people causing uncertainty and ambiguity.
Salary Range
$110,000.00 - $120,000.00 / Annum
