The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5X2, Monday to Friday schedule, day shift rotation.

 

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

POSITION

Senior Mining Engineer

 

LOCATION

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting the Superintendent, Mine Engineering, the Senior Mine Engineer is responsible for mine planning projects, mine design, economic analysis, and coordinating with other departments.

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Optimizes truck shovel operation to maximize production and minimize operating costs at all times,
  • Works with the Superintendent, Mine Engineering to develop Life of Mine, Long Range Mine Plans, and pertaining presentations and documentation, and provide support for related capital forecasting and cost modelling,
  • Leads short-range mining functions ensuring effective communication and collaboration between the Mine Engineering group and other groups around site,
  • Acts as a mentor to promote the personal and professional development of their direct reports,
  • Creates a mine plan schedule that includes production targets, major, and support equipment hours, requirements, and operating days,
  • Ensures mine designs are harmonized with geotechnical, environmental, and other related considerations,
  • Performs economic analysis and cost estimating as well as assist with production and cost reporting and tracking,
  • Builds detailed costing models to evaluate mining options,
  • Develops project schedules, budget, risk register, and appropriate requests, and track and compare to previous plans,
  • Contributes to project design work as required,
  • Manages projects and contractors of various mine planning projects,
  • Integrates and communicates with other site groups to develop the best overall plan,
  • Performs other responsibilities as required or as assigned.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with Mining; equivalent combination of education and mine engineering experience also considered,
  • Minimum seven years of experience, with progressive experience in short, medium, and long- range planning,
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada, with the ability to register as a member of the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC),
  • Previous experience in open pit, truck and shovel operations,
  • Experience conducting feasibility studies and cost estimates,
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Flexibility and creativity in dealing with scheduling, mine planning, and other complex issues,
  • Experience working on projects, overseeing, coordinating, and communicating with multiple internal resources and external contractors,
  • Experience in planning drilling and blasting in a mine operation setting, including pattern and tie-in design, drill scheduling, and blast coordination,
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint,
  • Extensive experience in utilizing appropriate mine planning, design and scheduling software packages,
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills,
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and comfortable making recommendations,
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment,
  • Capacity to work in a self-directed manner and possess good time management skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a technical team-based environment,
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization, an ability to influence outcomes, and an ability to manage conflict,
  • Strong leadership skills, including ability to manage a diverse team to effectively leverage skillsets and providing additional support where necessary,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.   

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Exposure to dust and temperature fluctuations,
  • Occasional exposure to fluctuations in sounds, noise, vibration levels.

 

SALARY RANGE

$130,000.00 - $159,000.00 / Annum
