The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Mine Maintenance Superintendent at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday Schedule.

Location

Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities,  especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Mine Operations Manager or Designate the Superintendent, Mine Maintenanceis an integral part of the Mine Maintenance team at the mine site playing a key role in overseeing all truck shop crew maintenance activities. Responsibilities will include the identification and correction of potential work problems and health and safety issues. Safely achieved and exceeded mine operations availability, production targets and plans.  

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures site compliance with mining regulations and follows the Mine site’s safety, quality, and environmental standards in all aspects of work,
  • Follows Occupational Health and Safety, Mines Act, and Copper Mountain Mine’s standard operating procedures (SOPs),
  • Oversees all truck shop crew maintenance activities,
  • Focuses on equipment availability and reliability,
  • Accountable for execution of weekly scheduled maintenance activities to ensure they meet the overall production goals of the operation,
  • Maintains and continuously improve existing job plans in collaboration with Mine Operations,
  • Provides direct support to the mine operations general foreman in terms of immediate needs for daily production issues,
  • Works with planners and Reliability engineers on an ongoing basis to identify problems and changes that may influence planned maintenance activities. Identify solutions and alternate plan options,
  • Provides high level support to the Mine Manager to develop and manage the Mine maintenance yearly budget,
  • Actively manages spending within the approved budget,
  • Oversees proper work execution, daily monitoring to ensure quality inspections done by maintenance team,
  • Ensures accident/incident investigations are completed as per Hudbay- CMM standard,
  • Ensures safety concerns are addressed in a timely manner,
  • Recommends staffing requirements and participate in the recruitment process,
  • Evaluates performance of the Mine Maintenance team,
  • Maintains a high commitment to personal safety, integrity of the environment, and equipment reliability,
  • Adheres to all relevant Hudbay-CMM policies and procedures,
  • Fosters healthy employee relations by addressingemployee performance and successmatters in a timely manner,
  • Develops maintenance personnel to create a culture of continuous improvement for our employees,
  • Establishes methods to meet work schedules and coordinates work activities with other departments,
  • Completes performance evaluations on direct reports and provides regular feedback,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Superintendent, Mine Maintenance role as required or as assigned by the department head.

 

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent,
  • Current BC Mine Supervisor Certificate,
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of maintenance experience within the mining industry with at least three (3) years in a Superintendent role,
  • P. Eng designation or ability to register with EGBC as a Professional Engineer.
  • High level of proficiency with Computer Applications,
  • Previous management experience with proven leadership abilities is an asset,
  • Possess a valid Class 5 British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills,
  • Proven leadership and team-building capabilities and the foresight to recognize and overcome any potential challenges while effectively supervising the hourly staff and independent contractors,
  • Solid understanding of government regulations and demonstrated ability to impact safe working practices,
  • Highly organized with excellent project management and analysis skills,
  • Promotes a positive work environment and addresses issues when brought forward,
  • Must work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and possess a strong work ethic,
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with key business partners, and internal customers,
  • Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc.,
  • Strong negotiation and prioritization skills,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Working Conditions

  • Team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Work includes manual dexterity to use desktop computers and peripheral devices,
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
  • Regular exposure to noise, dust, and adverse weather conditions.
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Rate of Pay

$150K – 180K / Annum.
