The Opportunity:

 

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Temporary Surveyor at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7 schedule, day shift rotation.

 

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

 

Summary

Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, the Surveyor will be responsible for supporting the Mine Operations and Engineering departments in achieving targets by completing survey activities including the layout and pickup of drilling, blasting, and digging areas.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Ensures site compliance with mining regulations and follows Copper Mountain Mine site’s safety, quality, and environmental standards in all aspects of work,
  • Completes daily shovel grade shots, dig face pickups, and dump pickups,
  • Updates faces, dumps, and site infrastructure, and produces volume calculations and as-builts surveys in GEOVIA (Surpac) software,
  • Produces dig maps, layout and pick up blast holes, staking and flagging of ore control boundaries as well as shovel dig limits,
  • Prepares construction survey layout of cut/fills, roads, corridors, slopes, pipe runs,
  • Carries out the construction of as-built surveys of civil structures, stockpiles, pipelines,
  • Assists with the Mine planning projects,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Surveyor role as required or as assigned by the department head.

 

Education & Experience

  • A College Diploma in geomatics or land survey technology, mining technology, or survey engineering or equivalent experience,
  • Field surveying experience or exposure to mining environment is considered an asset,
  • Experience with Trimble global positioning systems (GPS) equipment or equivalent and GEOVIA (Surpac) software or equivalent is considered an asset,
  • Proficient user of Word, Excel, and Google Suite,
  • Possess a valid Class 5 British Columbia driver’s license.

 

Required Skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills,
  • Able to use survey instruments to do surveying,
  • Physically able to carry bundles of stakes, walk on broken muck safely, and hammer ore control stakes under challenging conditions,
  • Willing to get skilled in an unsupervised use of Trimble GPS and a Total Station system including equipment setup and problem resolution,
  • Able to work under pressure and maintain a calm focus to prioritize tasks and meet tight timelines,
  • Able to work independently as well as function as an effective team member,
  • Able to learn how to operate drones to capture and analyze survey data.

 

Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to driving in congested high traffic mining and construction areas under varying weather conditions,
  • Regular exposure to walking in similar congested/high traffic construction areas as well as more remote areas on site (uneven footing is commonplace),
  • Frequent lifting/carrying of survey gear (typically less than 20kgs),
  • Work involves a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings.

 

Salary Range

$43.35 / hr.
