The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking for Water Systems Operator at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7, 12-hour, day and night shift schedule.

Location
Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
Reporting to the Water Systems Supervisor, the Water Systems Operator is responsible for providing key support in the operation and monitoring of the water systems on-site as well as general maintenance of the site. This position will focus on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment issues.
Responsibilities
- Practices safe work behaviors and supports the Copper Mountain Mine safety culture through participation in daily and monthly safety meetings and initiatives,
- Adheres strictly to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements in all areas while on mine property,
- Follows all Company policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs),
- Manage and maintain full operational control over all pumps, generators, pipelines, and water flows at pump-back stations and passive transfer systems. This includes the execution of operational procedures, real-time monitoring of all parameters, and detailed regulatory and operational reporting on system performance and flow integrity,
- Conducts regular physical inspections of equipment, including pumps, pipes, and gauges. Checking for leaks, unusual noises, or any visible damage and document the findings,
- Diagnosing and remediate operational failures, such as clearing a clogged line or resetting a tripped pump, and immediately notifying the supervisor of any issues found and fixed as well as problems not resolved,
- Prepare equipment for maintenance, which could include draining a line or de-energizing a pump, while following CMM’s Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedure,
- Support maintenance for all water systems – fresh, reclaim and contact water at site,
- Communicate with supervisors when equipment is outside standard operating parameters,
- Inform supervisors of any unexpected shutdown promptly, spills or emergencies in a timely and respectful manner,
- Coordinate with the mine blasting crews regarding scheduled blasts for the safety of the water system's operation personnel and assets,
- Inspect all systems and equipment to ensure assets are properly secured for scheduled blasts,
- Install and connect piping, including bolting, unbolting and fusing of HDPE pipe; assist maintenance team with steel piping installation,
- Performs any other responsibilities related to the Water Systems Operator position as required or as assigned by the department head.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED),
- Minimum of three (3) years of fluid transport experience,
- Previous experience in pit dewatering and water management at a mine site is desirable,
- Mobile equipment operation and maintenance knowledge is considered an asset,
- Pipe fusing training and experience as well as pipefitting experience is considered an asset,
- Demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced environment,
- Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.
Required Skills
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills,
- Strong mechanical skills,
- Have high regard for personal safety and the safety of company property and employees,
- Strong work ethic, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision,
- Working knowledge of water pumping systems,
- Available to work shift schedules, including rotating 12-hour shifts (rosters include both days, nights, and weekends),
- Basic mechanical aptitude for pipe work, including the ability to bolt, unbolt, and fuse HDPE pipe,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements,
- Demonstrate the eligibility to work in Canada.
Working Conditions
- Walking on uneven surfaces in all conditions (wet, icy, slippery),
- Work environment includes exposure to noise, vibrations, and dust, and will require working alone with minimum supervision,
- Exposure to working outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving,
- Regular exposure to lifting and moving items and equipment up to 50 pounds,
- Work will require climbing on equipment and under equipment occasionally in wet muddy conditions,
- Will be required to be clean-shaven.
Rate of Pay
$43.55 / hour
