Purpose of Role:
Reporting to the Water Systems Supervisor, the Water Systems Pump Watch is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Copper Mountain Mine (CMM) site water management pumping systems. Water transfer systems include the Tailings Management Facility (TMF) Seepage Systems - West Seepage pump system or East Seepage pump system – as well as other site water management transfer systems.
Role Accountabilities:
- Practices safe work behaviors and supports the Copper Mountain Mine safety culture through participation in daily and monthly safety meetings and initiatives,
- Adheres strictly to PPE requirements in all areas while on mine property,
- Follows all Company policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs),
- Resolves work problems and recommends measures to improve productivity and product quality,
- Operates and monitors pumping systems: pumps, valves, generators, and water flows,
- Provides general good housekeeping practices in assigned work areas and greater Tailings and Water Systems areas,
- Fuels mobile equipment, pumps, generators, and light plants,
- Keeps all fluids within operating ranges,
- Communicates to supervisors when issues arise with equipment outside of normal operating parameters,
- Informs supervisors of any unexpected shutdown in a timely manner,
- Assists in any other operational duties, and supports Maintenance activities,
- Performs any other responsibilities related to the Pump Watch position as required or as assigned, by the department head.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC),
- Mechanical aptitude is considered an asset,
- Knowledge of pumping systems is considered an asset,
- Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.
Other skills:
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing,
- High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability,
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision,
- Have high regard for personal safety and the safety of company property and employees,
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude,
- Comfortable with winter driving, and being able to drive in all conditions,
- Ability to work dayshift and nightshift,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
Working Conditions:
- Walking on uneven surfaces in all conditions (wet, icy, slippery),
- Work environment includes exposure to noise, vibrations, and dust, and will require working alone with minimum supervision,
- Exposure to working outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving,
- Regular exposure to lifting and moving items and equipment up to 50 pounds,
- Work will require climbing on equipment and under equipment occasionally in wet muddy conditions,
- Will be required to be clean-shaven.
