The Opportunity:

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Water Systems Supervisor at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7, 12-hour shift; Day shift.

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors.  Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to Water Systems General Supervisor, the Water Systems Supervisor, is responsible for the safe and productive supervision, coordination, and effective scheduling of the workforce to meet water management / water transfer targets and quality standards and ensure the ongoing safe operation of the water systems at Copper Mountain Mine (CMM).

Responsibilities 

• Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with the tailings management facilities’ (TMF) Operation, Maintenance, Surveillance (OMS) manual and any related water systems OMS manual,
• Lead and coordinate the production with maintenance, and technical teams to deliver safe and effective water management,
• Ensure work is undertaken in compliance with mining regulations and the Mine site’s safety (lock out and tag out, isolation), quality, and environmental standards and procedures,
• Assist in creating and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Job Hazard Assessment (JHA) and actively participates in Health & Safety initiatives,
• Make sure that shift staffing requirements are met, coordinate and schedule the activities of employees,
• Carry out workplace, water systems and TMF inspections on a regular basis,
• Identify, investigate, correct, and document potential work problems as well as health, safety, and environmental issues,
• Establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinates work activities with other departments,
• Provide information for production plans to ensure that production objectives are met,
• Review and report to Water Systems General Supervisor on water systems equipment to seek efficiency improvements,
• Contribute to developing methods, tools, and parts so downtime is minimal,
• Monitor and report on equipment component wear and tear and requisitions materials and supplies,
• Supervise and participate in the execution of equipment maintenance plans,
• Ensure all preventive and predictive maintenance plans are planned and scheduled via a computerized maintenance management system,
• Ensure update of the database for maintenance activities of all work performed,
• Provide reports on maintenance activities and equipment performance,
• Participate in interviewing, hiring, training, and developing employees to retain and develop the best talent for the Company,
• Manage performance by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, providing feedback, and coaching to achieve business plans and production goals,
• Identify training opportunities that provide depth and versatility for employees in the team and trains staff in production methods, safety procedures, and company policies,
• Promote a positive employee environment to ensure the continuation of a solid working relationship with all employees,
• Organize and schedule the activities of certified trades, labourers, and contractors’ employees, when required,
• Support coordination and execution of the system shutdowns,
• Enforce housekeeping standards in all areas of responsibility,
• Perform any other responsibilities necessary to support the water systems, or tailings areas related to the Water Systems Supervisor role as required or as assigned by the department head.   

Education & Experience

• Expertise in production and/or maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants, tailings management facilities and/or water systems,
• Considered attributes for this role are:

1. Ten (10) years of mill/crusher/water systems operations experience with at least three (3) years of which should be in a supervisory capacity, coupled with a proven track record of successfully leading a team in an industrial environment,

OR

2. Five plus (5+) years of experience in a maintenance role, together with a strong understanding of maintenance process improvements and control strategies,

OR

3. Bachelor’s degree in mining, metallurgy or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experiences,

• Current BC Mine Supervisor Certificate or the ability to obtain certification within 3 months of being awarded the position,
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite including experience with computerized control and operating systems,
• Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills,
• Proven leadership, motivational, and team-building capabilities, and the foresight to recognize
• and overcome any potential challenges while effectively supervising the hourly staff and independent contractors,
• Strong analytical skills to identify and understand efficiencies to recommend and implement improvements and changes to maximize operations,
• Have a solid understanding of operating equipment and be able to provide guidance to operators for the safe operation of grader, excavators, loaders and dozers
• Be familiar with the safe operation of the water systems equipment,
• Demonstrated ability to be effective in a fast-paced, dynamic, multitasking work environment,
• Possess a strong work ethic with a drive for improvement,
• Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with key business partners, and internal customers,
• Competent in filling out forms including transmittals, warehouse vouchers, timecards, expense forms and investigation forms,
• Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.  

Working Conditions:

• Team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings.
• Work includes manual dexterity to use desktop computers and peripheral devices,
• Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
• Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments,
• Work requires heavy lifting, awkward positions, walking and standing,
• Exceptional exposure to unfavorable working conditions associated with the work environment such as confined spaces, ladders, and/or rooftops,
• Work involves pushing, pulling, and moving equipment and/or supplies over 50 pounds,
• Job requires to be clean-shaven.

Salary Range

$124K - $138K/ Annum
