The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Superintendent to manage the safe operation and performance of our on-site Analytical Laboratory at the Snow Lake operation. This full-time role will coordinate laboratory activities, provide technical support and oversee staff.
The laboratory conducts assay analysis for precious and base metals for the site geology and mill departments’ samples.
The successful applicant will have the choice between a fly-In-fly-out/work from home hybrid or opt to relocate to the vibrant community of Snow Lake, MB. Air travel arrangements to and from site are provided in addition to camp/housing accommodations while on site. Alternatively, relocation packages and housing assistance is available to move you and your family to Snow Lake, Manitoba.

Role responsibilities:

Oversee all laboratory operations to ensure the safe, timely and accurate delivery of results to the mill and geology departments.

Ensure all activities are carried out consistent with the relevant safety regulations, standards, and best practices.

Manage and develop a high-performing laboratory team, including recruitment, training, performance management, and career development.

Provide technical input to the laboratory team to assist with diagnosing production, quality and equipment related issues.

Maintain and continue to implement quality management systems in line with ISO 17025 guidelines.

Ensure laboratory costs remain in budget, through rationalising equipment and consumables.

Ensure laboratory equipment is regularly maintained and calibrated, by maintaining compliance with routine maintenance schedules.

Maintain effective communication with management and provide timely, accurate reporting on laboratory activities.
Professional Experience / Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or a closely related scientific field.

+5 years experience in an analytical laboratory environment.

Proven experience supervising and managing laboratory staff.
Knowledge, skills and attributes:

Strong technical and practical knowledge of precious and base metal assay techniques and associated equipment - specifically fire assay, AA, ICP-OES and ICP-MS.

Knowledge of laboratory accreditation standards (ISOO 17025).

Proficient in use of laboratory equipment and software.

Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on enhancing laboratory safety, efficiency and quality.
