Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking an Engineering Co-op student to join us at our Lalor Mine. The successful candidate will be working with our Engineering team in one of Canada’s most complex and dynamic underground mining environments.

You will receive direct mentorship from engineering leaders, guiding you toward learning about Mine Engineering.

At Lalor Mine, we are mining gold, zinc, copper, and silver using modern methods and a "safety-first" culture.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • As an Engineering Co-op student, you will learn about the safe and optimal extraction of mineral deposits. You will work collaboratively with safety, operations, and geology teams to learn about mine planning and departmental functions. There will be opportunity to travel underground regularly to learn about surveying, ventilation, validating plans, assessing ground conditions, and real-time engineering solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities:

  • Mine Planning: Learn about designing safe and efficient short-to-mid-range extraction plans. Collaborate with geology to evaluate ore zones and minimize dilution.
  • Drill & Blast Engineering: Learn about designing long-hole blasts and stope drill layouts. Learn to analyze cavity monitoring surveys (CMS) and perform statistical analysis to optimize blast performance.
  • Operational Support: Opportunity to travel underground regularly to learn about the mining process, surveying and validating plans and operational challenges.
  • Risk Management: Learn to identify risks to the mine plan and implement appropriate mitigations.
  • Safety Leadership: Champion health and safety standards in all engineering designs and daily operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Have completed at least 1 year of a University Degree in Mining or Geological Engineering.
  • Attributes: Strong communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, and a willingness to learn.

INCLUSIONS
