The Opportunity:

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking an Indigenous Relations Coordinator within our Environment department located in Snow Lake, MB. The successful applicant will be on a Monday-Friday schedule. It will be based in the vibrant community of Snow Lake, MB, with relocation packages available.

The position includes a competitive compensation package which includes benefits, pension, profit sharing, employee share purchase plan among others.  

Accountabilities:

  • Serve as a dedicated resource and advocate for Indigenous employees, advising on culturally safe retention strategies and career development pathways to foster an equitable and supportive workplace.
  • Support the ongoing Mining Fundamentals Training Program cohorts with focus on retention and operative support. 
  • Collaborate closely with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and internal employees to develop and facilitate internal cultural education programs and events internally to build organizational cultural competency and ensure respectful alignment with local Indigenous protocols.
  • Outreach with communities of interest to provide operational information and employment opportunities

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of local Indigenous cultural practices and understanding of intergenerational effects experienced with Indigenous communities
  • Strong communication and advocacy skills in order to support employees, build relationships with communities, and provide advice/support to other Hudbay departments (i.e. Human Resources, Supply Chain).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Proficiency in Google workspace, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

 

Additions:

  • Ability to communicate in the Swampy Cree or Woodland Cree language is considered an asset
  • Industry experience and knowledge is considered an asset 
  • Priority will be given to qualified northern Indigenous candidates i.e., Treaty 5 and 6 
  • Preference to candidates who have worked with remote and northern Indigenous communities
  • Must be willing to relocate to Snow Lake, MB
  • Commitment to working in a safe and responsible manner
